Prospect Rambling – Potential Prospects for the Trade Deadline – Part 2

Pat Quinn

2020-02-20

Welcome to the Thursday prospect ramblings. This week I will go over what teams I think will make deals to make the playoffs as they assume they are in. Same format as two weeks ago, so a couple notes.

Also, #GoodTweet of the week:

{source}

Only about 1000 games to go on that contract as well…. https://t.co/6xFVusLZPx
— Pat Quinn (not that one) (@FHPQuinn) February 15, 2020
{/source}

NOTE: Wow I was wrong about Addison from Pittsburgh. I think I should have flipped him and Poulin

*******************

First the trades that went down recently, my opinions (which are the best opinions):

Jason Zucker for Galchenyuk, Addison and a conditional first (2020):

  • Great deal for both sides. The late first is key but Addison could become a legit #1PP QB to work for years with Kaprizov

Andy Green for a second (2021) and David Quenneville”

  • Only Lou would use a second on Greene and was the key to the deal. Quenneville likely will not be more than an AHL dman

Blake Coleman for Nolan Foote and Vancouver’s conditional first (2020):

  • Coleman is a great bottom-six player that produces like a second liner on a great deal and to move him the Devils got the better of either 2020 or 2021 first round picks and Nolan Foote, who is a good offensive player the Devils need in the system. I have never been that big of a fan of Foote but he has improved this year no doubt

Tyler Toffoli for Tyler Madden, Tim Schaller, a second (2020) and a conditional fourth (2022)

  • A pretty steep price if Toffoli will produce like he has been limited to produce in LA. If he can get back to the 30 goal ways it will be a good deal. Slightly expensive… probably but I am not as high n Madden as others

Julien Gauthier for Joey Keane

  • Yep

Dylan DeMelo for a third (2020)

  • Jets get stability on the back end for a cheap price

Brenden Dillon for a second (2020) and a conditional third (2021)

  • I do not get it because then Siegenthaler becomes the odd-man out, no chance for Djoos or Fehervary to get back in, and does not address the Capitals need for depth scoring

{source}

Just what the Caps need. Less scoring help https://t.co/IoLp2kO0ib
— Pat Quinn (not that one) (@FHPQuinn) February 18, 2020
{/source}

Marco Scandella for a second (2020) and a fourth (2021)

  • LOL at Montreal getting a better return for Scandella than Buffalo

Denis Malgin for Mason Marchment

  • I would 1000000% rather have Malgin, but Tallon gonna Tallon

Alex Martinez for two seconds (2020 & 2021)

  • At least the Kings are FINALLY rebuilding and Vegas gets a good top four defenseman

Alright, now on to trade deadline teams

Toronto

Untouchables:

  • Rasmus Sandin
  • Timothy Liljegren
  • Nicholas Robertson
  • Pierre Engvall – Signed a nice deal and will be a very good bottom six winger
  • Ilya Mikheyev – His play might price him out of Toronto for 2020-2021 but he will be a huge add for playoffs

Likely to be moved if a deal were to happen:

  • I think the Leafs would move a lot of prospects, as they are quite deep and keep moving guys that cannot move in to the top six for upgrades all over
  • Jeremy Bracco – Being out for personal reasons and in the rumour mill, the writing may be on the wall. He should become a good middle-six winger though
  • Dmytro Timashov
  • Egor Korshkov
  • Mikhail Abramov

Philadelphia

Untouchables:

  • Joel Farabee
  • Morgan Frost
  • Bobby Brink
  • Cam York
  • Yegor Zamula
    • I mean how do you move any of the five listed above????
  • Jay O’Brien – The Flyers likely will not give up on the recent first round pick

Likely to be moved if a deal were to happen:

  • Let me be honest, it is the Flyers they could move literally anyone and no one would be that surprised
  • Isaac Ratcliffe
  • German Rubtsov – A team would be smart to nab him from the Flyers
  • Mikhail Vorobyev
  • Nicolas Aubé-Kubel

New York Islanders

Untouchables:

  • Kieffer Bellows
  • Simon Holmström – As an 18-year old AHL player he looks not good but he is in fact very good. Will need time to develop as he should be back in Europe
  • Oliver Wahlstrom
  • Noah Dobson
  • Ilya Sorokin

Likely to be moved if a deal were to happen:

  • It is Lou so anyone can be moved for old grinders ha
  • Sebastian Aho – HE SHOULD BE IN THE NHL
  • Bode Wilde – Recently sent to the CHL after not being good in the AHL, hopefully he regains his confidence
  • Joshua Ho-Sang – Someone please save him
  • Ruslan Iskhakov
  • Mitchell Vande Sompel
  • Otto Koivula

Carolina

Untouchables:

  • Dominik Bokk – Stole him from St. Louis and by the way how bad has Faulk been. Will NHL teams stop trading with Carolina soon?
  • Jake Bean – Will soon be a top four NHL scoring defenseman
  • Ryan Suzuki
  • Jamieson Rees
  • Stelio Mattheos
  • Patrik Puistola
  • Janne Kuokkanen
  • Anttoni Honka – They will wait to see if he can hit that high ceiling instead of moving him
  • Jack Drury

Likely to be moved if a deal were to happen:

  • I really do not think Carolina will do anything crazy, but they may move a few players
  • Chase Priskie – Recently signed but the Hurricanes have plenty of depth on defense
  • Oliwer Kaski
  • Janne Kuokkanen – A good future bottom six winger for a team
  • Eetu Luostarinen

Dallas

Untouchables:

  • Ty Dellandrea – Soon to be very good NHL third line centre
  • Jason Robertson – A skilled top six winger (random note, I routinely mix up Jason Robertson and Jason Dickinson because they are both named Jason and their last names are nine letters)
  • Denis Gurianov – Already in the top six/nine and I doubt they would move him
  • Jason Dickinson
  • Thomas Harley (aka Harley Thomas)
  • Jake Oettinger

Likely to be moved if a deal were to happen:

  • Colton Point
  • Gavin Bayreuther
  • Adam Mascherin
  • Riley Tufte
  • Joel L’Esperance

Colorado

Untouchables:

  • Bowen Byram – No chance
  • Martin Kaut
  • Justus Annunen – Based on the team need for goaltending depth
  • With the recent string of injuries these three above may be the only untouchables in the system

Likely to be moved if a deal were to happen:

  • Shane Bowers – An addition great piece in the Duchene/Turris deal could be intriguing for other teams
  • Connor Timmins
    • Only have Bowers and Timmins on here because I think the Avs may be desperate
  • Vladislav Kamenev – His time in Colorado really has not worked out due to injury and hopefully he can get a fresh start some where new
  • Sampo Ranta
  • Adam Werner
  • Alex Beaucage

Las Vegas

Untouchables:

  • Peyton Krebs – Zero chance he is moved (….watch me be wrong haha)
  • Nicolas Hague
  • Jimmy Schuldt

Likely to be moved if a deal were to happen:

  • Vegas may be inclined to go all in with a lot of the team being older
  • Jake Bischoff
  • Ivan Morozov
  • Nicolas Roy – Likely kept as a depth piece but he may be moved if the deal was right
  • Lucas Elvenes – Started great in the AHL but has cooled off recently, would still be a nice get for a team with more room on the NHL squad
  • Pavel Dorofeyev – Everyone seems to underrate his skill but he can easily become a top nine NHL winger
  • Jack Dugan
  • Jake Leschyshyn

Vancouver

Untouchables:

  • Nils Höglander – First round talent nabbed in round two, a definite keep
  • Vasili Podkolzin
  • Michael DiPietro
  • Nikita Tryamkin – Canucks really want him back; I doubt they want to move him

Likely to be moved if a deal were to happen:

  • Jonah Gadjovich
  • Zack MacEwen
  • Olli Juolevi – The Canucks may move the blueliner to give him a fresh start, though he can still be a reliable top four defenseman
  • Jack Rathbone
  • Brogan Rafferty – Has been great in the AHL and may be used as a piece to move
  • Jett Woo
  • I just get this gut feeling that if the Canucks can trade a top prospect to improve the team they will this season. They seem all in right now

On the cusp / I have already written too much

  • Edmonton
  • Calgary
  • Arizona
  • Winnipeg
  • Nashville
  • Florida
