Observations:
August 2012 – Bourret has turned into a massive failure of a top draft pick, but Atlanta had many failures with good picks including: Patrik Stefan, Luke Sellars, Ilya Nikulin, Boris Valabik, Grant Lewis, and Riley Holzapfel. Both Stefan and Bourret had serious potential to be high end players, but poor development and player flaws, might have been a major reason the Thrashers did not survive. Bourret does play an explosive game for a smaller player, but has never put a complete game together like he had in the QMJHL. Very feisty, above average speed, good vision, deceptive shooter and good puck mover, all great attributes, but never grasped the responsibility side of the game that has killed prospects like Angelo Esposito. Injuries in the AHL also derailed development, after being virtually injury free in junior. He will likely find himself playing the upcoming season struggling to find a substantial minor pro opportunity. He has played the last 2 seasons in the ECHL after struggling in the Czech Republic.
He has a very entertaining playing style (if he is on your team), but it does not relate strongly to major pro, thus unlikely to ever earn another chance to show he has upside. Way off the fantasy radar.
