Nathaniel Day

September 2026 – Day was the Oilers’ sixth-round pick in the 2023 Draft after a solid second OHL season with a rebuilding Flint team, where he faced a high volume of shots. The Oilers selected him that year because of his size (6-3, 185 lbs at 18-years-old) and because he was considered one of the biggest wildcard goaltenders in the draft following a strong finish to his draft season. He took over Flint’s starting job and posted a .916 save percentage over his final 11 games including nine wins. Now 6-4, 205 lbs, Day later became the Firebirds’ MVP, but his development has slowed since turning professional. He struggled in his first ECHL season with Fort Wayne, raising questions about whether he can turn his physical tools into a reliable professional game.  Pat Bast

August 2025 – Day’s first taste of professional hockey probably couldn’t have gone any better. He suited up for three ECHL games with the Fort Wayne Komets after signing his ELC, and went 2-0-0 with only one goal allowed in 140 minutes of work. He then saw five playoff games worth of work, with a 2-2-0 record, 2.17 GAA and .914 save percentage.

For a team like Edmonton where goaltending has been a point of contention seemingly since Grant Fuhr was in net, any potential Edmonton goalie could see opportunity sooner than expected. Given his big body at 6-4, he is physically ready to defend an NHL net, but will need some seasoning in the AHL to show his sterling numbers in a miniscule sample size are indicative of him thriving in a better system than he was behind in Flint of the OHL.

He is worth a speculative stash in deeper leagues where goalies are valuable. Alex Wyatt

April 2025 – The Edmonton Oilers signed Day to a three-year, entry-level contract and assigned him to the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL. Day debuted professionally on April 6, 2025, versus the Cincinnati Cyclones, where he stopped all 24 shots he faced and backstopped the Komets to a 7-0 victory. Mark Henry
