Observations:

September 2013 – Nick Petrecki signed a one-year contract with the San Jose Sharks, which put them at the max amount of contracts they can have signed.  Petrecki has not progressed the way many had hoped, but he had a better season this last go around.  He did receive an invite to the Sharks training camp where he will get a chance to prove to the Sharks brass that he’s worth the new contract.  Expect him to start the season in Worcester.  Tim Graveline

February 2013 – Petrecki is a prospect that has puzzled Sharks fans for some time. He was praised for a solid overall game and there was hope that he could be a points producer. Instead, his game has evolved into more of a solid shut down role as indicated by his plus 6 rating in 18 games. He also has a bit of a mean streak in him as he has 62 penalty minutes. If he continues this, he could find himself in a similar role to Douglas Murray, but he still has a lot of competition ahead of him with the likes of Matt Tennyson producing so well. Tim Graveline

July 2012 – San Jose has been a very difficult place for young defense to make the jump in the past few years and if they do, it’s been as a depth player except Marc Vlasic. Petrecki is a stay at home defender that Shark fans could really enjoy. He is a very imposing player, good skater, with a nasty side rivaled by few. He will always be a shutdown defenseman in the bottom pairings, but can be counted on to eat tough minutes. A fourth season in the minors will not hurt his development, but he needs to start getting tastes of bigger competition and play with more talented teammates as the Sharks have not supplied their development rosters with talent for a few years. A playoff appearance would bring out the best and show the value of a player like Petrecki. Jason Banks

Fantasy Outlook: D-

Will never be on the radar offensively, but will provide large penalty minute, hit and blocked shot numbers.
