World Championship Update

And with the first pick in the 2012 NHL draft, the Edmonton Oilers select… Ryan Murray, Everett Silvertips. It’s not as far-fetched as it seems. With recent concerns about Yakupov and other possible top five selections, combined with Murray not looking out of place playing with Canada at the World Championship, it could happen. Consider Murray was hand-picked for the team comprised of NHL players by Edmonton’s Kevin Lowe, and the 18-year-old has shown the potential to be a number one defenseman down the road. Murray plays a solid all-around game, with the potential for very good offensive production in the future. With the Oilers collection of young forwards, Murray might be the target in Edmonton… The United States defeated Canada 5-4 on a Jack Johnson goal in overtime last night in a entertaining game. Columbus prospect Cam Atkinson has looked good for the U.S. team, using his speed and tenacity to put pressure on the opposing defense. He should be a regular next season in Columbus. Another prospect, Kyle Palmieri of Anaheim is also on the United States squad, but hasn’t been much of a factor thus far, although he does have four penalty minutes.
