June 2022 – Cooley stood out for the Admirals in their short but sweet playoff run. In 7 playoff games, he had a .926 save percentage, holding down the crease while Connor Ingram was up with the Predators. Cooley is a strong competitor and will fight as hard as possible to make a save. He can overplay the puck at times but displays a lot of athleticism. With the introduction of Yaroslav Askarov in the minors, it is hard to say if Cooley is guaranteed to be Milwaukee’s starter heading into 2022-23, but either way, he will be contending for that job. March 2022 – Cooley is seemingly in an odd stage of his development. He has proved he is ready to move up from the ECHL but hasn’t exactly impressed in the AHL quite yet. Playing the back-up role to Connor Ingram in Milwaukee this season, Cooley has a .893 save percentage and a 3.23 goals-against average in 20 games played. Although he hasn’t stood out, his numbers fall in line with a couple of rookie comparables, such as Alex D’Orio in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Joel Hofer in Springfield. With Ingram still locked up until the end of next season, I don’t think he will step into the starting position just yet, but the pending RFA should see a contract extension to continue as the back-up for Milwaukee through next year. August 2021 – After a solid first pro season in the ECHL, Cooley will battle for a spot on the Admirals. With a .911 save percentage over 22 games with the Florida Everblades, moving onto the next step of pro hockey may benefit his development most. Curtis Rines
