Observations:

June 2016- The Coyotes have agreed to a two-year, one-way $2.1 million deal that was well above the $665,500 qualifying offer the team was requred to give, with Louis Domingue. Unlike last year, the new contract didn't drag out and Domingue is firmly planted as Mike Smith's backup for the 2016-17 season. Keith Duggan

June 2016- A bright spot in the Coyotes 2015-16 season was the play of Louis Domingue, has he emerged as an NHL caliber goalie. While his play did dip in February, a .912 save percentage and 2.75 goals-against average along with a 15-18-4 record for the season are pretty solid numbers. Unlike last off-season, Coyotes brass has said Domingue will serve as Mike Smith's backup in 2016-17. With a young Arizona squad quickly improving and Smith's history of injuries, Domingue could be a solid late round pick-up. Keith Duggan

February 2016-  Louis Domingue has been named NHL's rookie of the month for January. The young goalie went 6-3-2 in 11 appearances, posting a 2.20 goals-against average and .925 save percentage with one shutout. Domingue has been stellar for the Coyotes since Mike Smith went down with an injury. Unfortunately his last two starts, one before and one after the All-Star break, Domingue was pulled in both games and was scored from a center ice shot in each contest. The 23-year old will have the chance to get his rookie campaign back on track, though. Smith is still sidelined for at least two more weeks. Keith Duggan

January 2016- In seven starts since being recalled, Louis Domingue has allowed 14 goals on 227 shots for a .939 save percentage. With a 5-2-1 record, Domingue has seized, at the moment, number one goalie dties for the Coyotes. If he's still available in your fantasy leagues, Domingue could be a worthy pick-up. Keith Duggan

December 2015- Louis Domingue has been recalled to the Coyotes with news that Mike Smith was placed on IR after having surgery on a core muscle issue and will miss an estimated eight to 10 weeks. Andres Lindback is expected to play the bulk of games and the Coyotes have announced they will be monitoring the trade market to gauge what goaltending options are available. Lindback has never siezed number one goalie opportunity's in the past and this could be a golden chance for Domingue. Monitor the situation, as Domingue could be a sneaky sleeper pick-up. Keith Duggan

September 2015- After passing on Arizona's qualifying offer to instead play in Europe back in late July, Louis Domingue changed his mind and decided to resign with the Coyotes, inking a one-year, two-way contract. He will battle it out with Andres Lindback for the backup position behind Mike Smith during training camp but will most likely spend the season playing in the AHL for Springfield. While he proved to be a capable backup last season, a full season as a number one goalie in the AHL will be good for his development. Keith Duggan

August 2015- Still a restricted free agent, Louis Domingue has decided to play in Europe for the 2015-16 season. He thought he deserved more than a two-way contract from the Coyotes and will play more in overseas. Domingue has yet to sign with a team yet but in the meantime Arizona has moved on and inked German goalie Niklas Treutle. Keith Duggan

May 2015-It was an excellent 2014-15 season for Louis Domingue, as he went from unheard of depth goalie, to by the end of the year, NHL back-up pushing Mike Smith for starts. A big, athletic goalie, it all started with a fantastic training camp for Domingue, opening the eyes of many in the Coyotes organization. When Devin Dubnyk was traded in January, it was expected veteran Mike McKenna would serve as Mike Smith’s back-up in the NHL with Mark Visentin out for the year with an ankle injury. While he did spend some time in the NHL, Domingue seized the chance when given the opportunity to serve as the Coyotes back-up. He won his first NHL start against his hometown Montreal Canadians on February 1st and never looked back. Domingue posted a 1-2-1 record for the Coyotes, along with a .911 save percentage and 2.73 goals against average, decent numbers on a weak Arizona team. At the end of the Coyotes season he returned to the AHL, taking over number one goalie duties and played spectacular, nearly helping the Portland Pirates upset Calder Cup favorite Manchester Monarchs in the first round. Domingue’s role going into his fourth pro season is a question mark. It’s very likely the Coyotes sign a veteran back-up for Mike Smith this offseason and since Domingue has never served as a number one goalie in the AHL, if Smith went down with a injury would Arizona trust him as their everyday starter? So some extra seasoning will be good for him(his first pro season he played in the ECHL, second as Visentin’s back-up in Portland). Also he’ll have to be exposed to waivers to be sent down to the AHL and could be claimed by another team. But Domingue has given the Coyotes reason to remember he’s in the pipeline and hoping to continue his ascent. Keith Duggan

Fantasy Outlook: C+

Has proven he’s a capable back-up for the Coyotes but if Mike Smith went down with an injury could Domingue be trusted to carry the load? Another season in the AHL as a team's number one goalie seems the most likely destination for Domingue with the Coyotes signing Andres Lindback.
