November 2017 – With some of the struggles of Oleksiak and Julius Honka, Pateryn has found himself in the lineup the last several games. He’s strictly a depth player on the third defensive pairing. Pateryn is up to over 100 games in the NHL now at 27 years of age, so his developmental phase is likely over. In Montreal he was at least offering fantasy owners some PIM, but that doesn’t seem to be a case in Dallas. There is some production in the secondary stats like hits and blacked shots, but Honka could get called up any day and take away his minutes again. –Matt Kowalski

December 2015 – Pateryn has solidified a spot on the Canadiens roster and is officially an NHLer. Making the team out of training camp but sitting in the press box every night, Pateryn finally got his chance when Alexei Emelin was injured and missed a few games. Pateryn drew back in again on Dec. 10 versus Detroit (Beaulieu – scratch) and more or less cost the team the game with a terrible giveaway in front of the net that led to a Darren Helm goal during third period action. The good news for Pateryn is that Jarred Tinordi has yet to play a game, so while Beaulieu will probably be re-inserted, Pateryn seems entrenched as the number seven. Mike Barrett
