Observations:

October 2016 – Martinsen has earned a spot on the opening-night NHL roster yet again on the Avalanche. With the excessive amount of depth forwards in Colorado, his spot on the fourth line is not to be taken for granted, but is also a more valuable spot to be in. He brings marginal fantasy value (expect around 15 points), but will bring hits and PIM to the table as well. Dont expect him to move up the depth chart, as higher-ceiling gritty types Compher and Greer are in development and will surpass him very soon. Hayden Soboleski

June 2016 – Colorado has signed Martinsen to a one-year, one-way NHL contract. Despite being a healthy scratch throughout the year, he occasionally showed value as a fourth-liner able to have a net-front prescence and able to hold his own in the hard-to-get-to areas. Dont expect much more than we saw last season (around 55 games played, a dozen or so points). Hayden Soboleski

December 2015 – Martinsen has been a stable member in the Avs bottom-six, as coach Roy loves his gritty game. He has managed four points in 14 games, but clearly driving play isnt the reason he has stuck (given his awful relative corsi of -12.1). He has not been a notably productuve member of the AHL Rampage (two points in nine games), but given his NHL role will be on the fourth line (which recieves very few minutes under coach Roy), the team clearly favored a more physical and experien
