James Wright, C-LW

Shoots: L

Height: 6-4

Weight: 200

Born: 1990-03-24

Hometown: Saskatoon, Sask

Observations:

September 2016 – Wright looks to have bolted for the KHL for the 2016-17 season after putting up solid point totals in the AHL during 2015-16. While Wright is a very smart player and brings, energy, grit and a solid two-way game, he’s a bottom-six forward at best with the depth of the Jets young prospects. David Dickenson

November 2015 – Wright signed with the Islanders as an unrestricted free agent and was subsequently placed on waivers and sent to Bridgeport. Despite making the NHL at an early age, Wright has yet to show that he belongs back there. Dobber

September, 2013 – Wright ended off the year with a lacklustre five points in 38 games, with time mostly spent on the fourth line or the penalty kill. He is still developing, but is a longshot in terms of fantasy potential. This was his second stint of NHL action, his last one being with Tampa Bay back in the 2009-2010 campaign where he posted similar numbers. Look for him to settle into a bottom six role unless he can really turn things around in the next few seasons. Kevin Won

January 2013 – After showing promise jumping from the Vancouver Giants to the NHL, Wright’s career has been rather rough and his star has been falling. He was one of very few drafted outside the first round to make the NHL from junior on the strength of his training camp and Tampa liking his NHL size at the time. He is now in his third organization after being claimed off waivers by the Jets and now fits in as Winnipeg’s low end left winger. Wright is unlikely to show much production wise, thus he will not yet have NHL job security. He does have some upside and eventually become a decent bottom six player, but it looks like it will be a case of late blooming at the pro level.

Fantasy Outlook: D

Hard-worker, but likely to only see bottom line minutes if he’s ever back with the Jets. Don’t expect much of a fantasy impact.

Footage: Wright scores his first NHL goal, a beauty.
