March 2016 – After a nice little start offensively to open the season, van Riemsdyk has settled in as the team's fourth defenceman, averaging just under 20 minutes of ice per night. He has three goals and seven assists through 69 games and doesn't get much time on the PP for the high powered Blackhawks. van Riemsdyk has taken major strides this year, earning the trust of Joel Quenneville, but so far in his career, he has been the classic example of a better real life player than fantasy contributor. October 2015 – It's only a few games into the 2015-16 NHL season but look atop the defensive rookie scoring charts and Trevor van Riemsdyk holds the top spot with his one goal and two points. Lining up alongside NHL veteran Trevor Daley, van Riemsdyk has received time on the powerplay (second unit) giving fantasy poolies hope. On a deep Blackhawks team, van Riemsdyk is unlikely to clear 40-plus points but given the firepower surrounding him, he certainly could crack the 30 point plateau. Brendan Ross

May 2015 – The younger brother of Leafs’ winger James, Trevor van Riemsdyk emerged out of nowhere in 2014-15 to claim a spot on the Hawks’ opening night roster. Unfortunately, a fractured patella in November forced him to miss three months of his rookie season and he never did get back to the NHL during the regular season. In 18 games prior to the injury, TVR had one assist and an even +/- rating. On the bright side, however, the Hawks moved out a number of defensemen throughout the year, seemingly due to the development of players like van Riemsdyk. And as the Hawks have progressed in this year’s playoffs, injuries and poor play on the blue line may open a spot for the healthy van Riemsdyk to get in the lineup during the Stanley Cup Final. 24 years-old in September, he will have a realistic shot at opening next season with the Hawks and regaining his role as a third pairing D-man. Fantasy Outlook: C-

Steady defenseman who doesn’t flash offensively but does all the little things right. May be the perfect example of a better real-life player than fantasy asset.

Goal originally credited to van Riemsdyk, later changed to an assist, his first career point:
