Born: 1992-03-03

Hometown: Edmonton, Alberta

Drafted: 2010 by Florida Panthers, 36th Overall

February 2016 – Petrovic showed his multi-category ability in a recent game versus the Buffalo Sabres. He scored a goal, added an assist, was a plus four, and had three fights for a total of 29 penalty minutes in heated tilts with Evander Kane. This is Petrovic first full season at the NHL level, and is showing signs of being a very useful commodity in the fantasy hockey world. – Lee Rayson
Oct 2015 – Petrovic has continued his late season success with a strong training camp, appearing poised to begin the 2015-16 season with the NHL Panthers.  He played in four pre-season games, registering one point, nine penalty minutes, and six shots on goal.  He could be a solid depth fantasy contributor in deep multi category leagues as early as this season if he maintains a top six role with the Panthers.  – Lee Rayson

January 2015 – Petrovic received his first call-up of the 2014-15 season late January.  He responded in his first game by producing five hits along with one assist on the power play. He played limited minutes, seeing just over 11 minutes of ice time.  Petrovic could receive a decent opportunity to show what he is capable of at the NHL level due to the Panthers placing Dylan Olsen on waivers. If he can stay in the lineup, he could be a solid depth fantasy asset with his multi-category statistics. – Lee Rayson

December 2014 – Petrovic has quietly put together a well rounded start to his AHL campaign this season with the Rampage.  Through 20 games he has posted 12 points, 39 shots, and 39 PIM showing has the tools to be a multi-cat fantasy contributor.  His 12 points puts him in a tie for the highest scoring defenseman on the Rampage.  He has time to refine his game in the minors & further his development with the depth of the Florida blueline, but he could very well be called up if an injury or trade was to occur.  Lee Rayson

December 2013 – Petrovic has shown excellent growth in his overall game while biding his time in the AHL, but has recently earned another recall. When he finally sticks, his offence has much more upside than has appeared in the AHL especially alongside the high talent forwards on the Panthers. Mixed in will be his enjoyment of extra-curricular activities. For a further boost, he may see some time on the powerplay as the ‘rocket launcher’. Petrovic possesses everything a franchise wants to see in a blueliner it is just a waiting game until he puts it together at a high level. For fantasy mangers he is an intense roto-style dream (similar mouthwatering feeling I have when I see a Swiss Chalet chicken in commercials). Jason Banks

April 2013 – After enjoying a very solid pro rookie season with the San Antonio rampage, Alex Petrvoic was called up by the Florida Panthers on April 18th. In 55 games with the Rampage this year, the 6’4” blueliner put up four goals, 13 assists and 102 PIM, to go along with a plus-8 rating. In four games so far with the Panthers, he has been thrown right into the action averaging over 19 minutes of ice-time per game, compiling zero points and a minus-5 rating. The bruising defenseman is certainly more valuable in leagues that count penalty minutes, hits and blocks, though there is some offensive upside, including a booming shot. It is apparent that the Panthers feel the 21 year-old is ready as he is already seeing opportunities on special teams. Nathan Kanter

May 2012 – Petrovic was named the WHL’s Defenseman of the Year for 2011-12. He had 48 points in 60 games for the Red Deer Rebels this season. Zenon Herasymiuk

February 2012 – Petrovic has been one of the few bright spots in a disappointing season for the Red Deer Rebels. He is a big shutdown defenseman that uses good mobility and smarts to take over games. In 53 games this year, Petrovic has 39 points and is one of the best defenders in the league. Unfortunately he was one of the last cuts from Team Canada’s World Junior team. Zenon Herasymiuk

Fantasy Outlook: C+

Plays a solid overall game and has some upside especially alongside talented teammates. Likely to bounce up and down to the AHL allowing him to develop until he becomes waiver eligible.
