May 2015 – Gibbons had a decent season in the AHL, putting up ten points in 25 games. He saw as many game in the NHL, but mustered only five assists in that span. Although he was known for his scoring in the NCAA, his game has translated to that of a grinder/penalty killer in the NHL. He’ll be a UFA this summer if the Jackets don’t extend him an offer. – Chris Bagwell

February, 2015 – Gibbons began the year hot with the Springfield Falcons, recording a goal and three assists in the first seven games. With injuries to the big club, he was quickly called up. Unfortunately, he hasn't found the same success in the NHL. He has five assists through 21 games. Currently, Gibbons is out with a knee injury and has been out since mid-December. – Chris Bagwell

January, 2014 – Brian Gibbons leads his AHL team, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, in scoring with 27 points in 23 games. He has been called up to Pittsburgh on two occasions this season, and has managed four points in his first 10 NHL games. Gibbons has exceeded expectations this year, and his size hasn’t hindered his game yet. He battles in the corners, and goes to the net with a purpose. When Pittsburgh gets healthy again and Gibbons is reassigned, he will be a top option for a call-up. In the meantime, with both Pascal Dupuis and Beau Bennett sidelined, Gibbons is seeing extended time on a line with Sidney Crosby. From a fantasy standpoint, this is obviously the best-case scenario and it's actually happening. Watch the situation closely. – Seth Brisendine

Fantasy Outlook: D+

While Gibbons is certainly talented, specifically with his speed, his game won’t likely develop into fantasy relevance. He’s a player that NHL coaches desire, but fantasy GMs do not. At 27, he has little time to prove otherwise.
