Observations:

 

July 2014 – De Haan inked a three year extension with the Isles at just under two million per season. He finished with 16 points in 51 NHL games last season. The youngster also chipped in three points in 17 games for Bridgeport of the AHL. Brad Wilson

 

February 2014 – Calvin de Haan continues to plug along for the Islanders. With his assist in the first game back after the Olympics, de Haan now has three points in his last five games to total 11 on the year. Possibly the best part of the former first rounder’s season is that his 11 points have all come in the last 18 games. He also logged over 23 minutes of ice for the third time this season. His plus/minus leaves some to be desired at minus-11 but considering he is just 22 years old and is only a minus-2 over the past 18 games, de Haan is rounding into a nice option in the Isles top 4. January 2014- De Haan has definitely shown glimpses of what he can potentially be. The team has struggled this year but look for De Haan’s game to take shape even further as the Islanders blueline becomes a little more clear over the next 6 months. Brad Wilson

 

November 2013 – De Haan has been called up to the parent Islanders. He will look to capitalize on this opportunity as he continues to battle in a very deep Islanders organization. Brad Wilson

 

October 2013 – De Haan was sent down to the Sound Tigers of the AHL at the NHL roster deadline. Brad Wilson

 

September 2013 – De Haan has had injuries slow his progress but following day two at Islanders rookie camp, he is healthy and more driven than ever to show what he can do. With above average skating and strong play with and without the puck, de Haan has impressed thus far. He may need to spend some time in the AHL to start the year but if de Haan can stay healthy, a rise to the big club before seasons end would not be a surprise. Brad Wilson

 

April 2013 – He has missed the entire season with a dislocated shoulder injury. His potential has not suffered from the injury, just his timeline to ascend the ladder. Next year he will need to spend the year in the AHL to play career catch-up. Jason Banks

 

April 2012 – de Haan is one of those highly regarded offensive D-men that can lead the rush, make the outlet pass, and quarterback the power play. One of his great attributes is his fluid skating stride which allows him to play a strong positional game in his own zone. He is not overly physical, though has confidence and makes good decisions with the puck. De Haan is defenseman high on the Islanders’ pecking order so it will be sooner than later when de Haan becomes full-time. He currently is experiencing AHL playoff action in his rookie campaign.
