Observations:

 

May 2015 – After starting the season in Springfield, Wennberg was quickly called up to the NHL due to a significant number of injuries. He struggled to produce at the beginning of the season, while also nursing an injury/infection, but found chemistry on a line with Scott Hartnell and Marko Dano late in the year.  In the last 16 games, he contributed 11 points. In total, he had 20 points in 68 NHL games. Look for him to start next season in the NHL alongside Dano and Hartnell again.  – Chris Bagwell

 

October 2014 – With injuries to Boone Jenner and Nathan Horton, Wennberg has made the big club out of training camp. In his NHL premiere, he recorded an assist. Currently, he is playing alongside Scott Hartnell and Artem Anisimov on the Jackets’s second line. He is also playing wing on the team’s second power play unit. Expect Wennberg to have a productive rookie campaign. Chris Bagwell

 

April 2014 – Wennberg finished his first season with Frolunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League. He had a fairly productive year with 21 points (16 goals and five assists) in 51 games. This was a slight decline from his previous season with Djurgarden. However, he did progress with his international play. At the 2014 World Junior Championship, Wennberg accumulated seven points in as many games but the team ended up losing to Finland in the championship game. June 2013 – Wennberg is a safe choice for the Blue Jackets at #14, and if anyone knows Swedish talent, it’s Columbus GM Kekalainen. While he lacks some of the top-end offensive ability as some of the others drafted around him, Wennberg brings a great combination of speed, puck control, and responsibility. In time, he should develop into a versatile player who can be used in all situations, yet still be relied upon to be a second line setup man. Tim Luccarelli

 

February 2013 – Molded in a similar style to many Swedish hockey players, Wennberg is a player with a well-rounded two-way game that stems from an intelligent hockey mind. The asset that stands out the most is Wennberg’s playmaking abilities as he executes accurate and creative passes using impressive on-ice vision. Wennberg is also extremely versatile as he lines up on the wing and centre equally well. Brendan Ross

 

Fantasy Outlook: A-

Wennberg received plenty of EV, SH, and PP time this season. He has garnered the coach’s trust and proven his ability to contribute offensively. He’ll likely add to his numbers next season with a full, healthy cast in Columbus.
