April 2013 – Diamond is a powerful force on the ice who can handle anything that comes his way. After recording two goals, three assists and 27 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on an amateur tryout contract, the Islanders signed the New York native to an entry level contract. Diamond played college hockey at the University of Maine and led his team in scoring over the past two seasons. Diamond finished his college career at Maine with 104 points (59 goals, 45 assists) and 467 penalty minutes in 135 career games with the Black Bears. Diamond also has some international experience as he was a part of the silver-medal-winning USA U-18 team in 2006. Diamond has a reputation for being a hard-nosed player on the ice. He was known for his aggressive style of play with a unique scoring touch. Diamond is a hard worker who will battle in the corners and in front of the net to gain position and establish a physical presence. He has provided an immediate impact at the AHL level and continues to be a physical force. Fantasy Outlook: D+

Diamond is not the youngest prospect in an Islanders organization that seems to be filled with some amazing young talent.  If he continues to show improvements and plays strong, Diamond could add a much-needed physical presence to the Islanders lineup.

Joey Diamond scores a beautiful goal.
