July 2012 – Surprisingly the Leafs chose not to sign Olden and he re-entered the draft. He went un-selected and should also be eligible again next season. From a development stand point he seemed very on track, came across and showed he could produce, was signed (later released) by the Marlies to an amateur tryout. What may have scared Leaf management was a negative 40 in only 48 OHL games.  Should another team decide to sign him this offseason he will head to the AHL or ECHL to work on his game. It is more likely he heads back to Europe.  Jason Banks

March 2012 – Sondre Olden made the difficult decision at the beginning of the 2011-12 season to play in the CHL, turning down an offer to play for MODO in the Swedish Elite League. Pressured by the Maple Leafs to play in the OHL, Olden has posted decent numbers going 48-11-21-32 in his rookie season. Olden is a very lanky player, and will need to bulk up considerably in order to progress offensively. Playing for the worst team in the OHL, the Erie Otters, Olden saw lots of ice time on both the power play and penalty kill.

Fantasy Outlook: D+

Unless Olden can significantly improve his offensive numbers, he will not be taken seriously as a future NHL caliber player.
