Observations:

December 2013 – Murray has been everything the Blue Jackets expected when drafted with his minutes and responsibility growing from 16 minutes per game to 22-24 on a regular basis. He has also added modest production with four power play points. Fantasy mangers that play in leagues that include blocks should be excited by the 60 he has recorded already this season. It was not enticing to see him only appear in only 85 games in his final two junior years, but it hasn’t hurt his development the least bit. He is very much a staple on the Blue Jackets D-core for years to come. Jason Banks

December 2012 – Murray has learned that his recent shoulder injury will sideline him for the next six months which will keep him from participating on the 2013 World Junior Canadian roster and the rest of Everett’s WHL season.  Devastating news! Brendan Ross

November 2012 – Murray is continuing to develop as a prospect in the WHL. In 23 games this season he has 17 points. He captained Team WHL in game five of the Canada-Russia Subway series and led them to victory. In his first game back after the event he injured he separated his shoulder. It is still uncertain how long the injury will keep him out, but his participation in the 2013 World Junior Championships is in jeopardy. Zenon Herasymiuk

October 2012 – Murray signed his entry level contract in the summer and was destine to get a very long look in camp. He is on Columbus’ list of recallable junior players, but is currently amongst league leading defensemen in the Western Hockey League amassing 15 points in 16 games so far. Jason Banks

June 2012 – The Columbus Blue Jackets drafted Ryan Murray 2nd overall in 2012. Brendan Ross

May 2012 – Murray had a solid season with the Everett Silvertips. He missed large portions of the season due to a high ankle sprain, and by playing for Team Canada at the WJC. He tallied 31 points in 46 games. Although Everett failed to make the playoffs, Murray’s season was not over. He joined Team Canada for the World Championships and played against some of the world’s best players in a limited role. Expect to hear Murray’s named called very, very early in the NHL Entry Draft in June. Zenon Herasymiuk

February 2012 – Currently in his third season as a member of the Everett Silvertips of the WHL, Ryan Murray can be relied upon to log heavy minutes and in all scenarios. Possessing tremendous vision and a high level of hockey IQ, Murray cites his puck-moving ability as his greatest strength. He has drawn comparisons to Scott Niedermayer. John Canario

Fantasy Outlook: B+

A fluid skating stride and icy calm virtually guarantee that he will be a top four NHL defender but he may not possess elite offensive skills.
