Cover image credit: AHL.com Two less-heralded forwards on Team Canada at this year’s WJC who have caught my eye are Zach Ostapchuk (OTT, 2021 #39) and Nathan Gaucher (ANA, 2022 #22). Neither interested me much in their draft years from a fantasy perspective because their skill sets lay more on the defensive side of things. [...]
Welcome to my return to prospect ramblings. This one will be a quick one as I only have a quick annual topic to cover. That being my annual World Junior Championship pool. What is it? A quick pool of five friends picking four Canadians and two international skaters, the idea being to mainly [...]
Photo credit: NHL.com I’ll start today’s Ramblings with a few observations about the World Juniors, then shift over to highlighting a few players elsewhere. I have a soft spot for Team Germany after previewing their roster ahead of the tournament, and they put on an entertaining show as the clear underdog in their 1-0 loss [...]
Shane Wright Wright has a lot to prove at this tournament. There is no doubt he is still a top prospect and the Seattle Kraken are playing the long game with him. A strong tournament at the under 20 World Junior Championship (U20WJC) will no doubt improve his confidence, though I’m not sure it will [...]
There have been plenty of impactful rookies around the league this season. Each division is spoiled with young talent, and in this week’s Prospect Ramblings, I wanted to highlight the Atlantic Division rookie class. Pyotr Kochetkov 2nd round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2019 has had an expanded role this season with the injury to Frederik Andersen and inconsistent play of Antti Raanta. We saw Kochetkov last season a little bit and expected we’d see him more this season because of the band-aid boys in front of him. [...]
Cover image photo credit: Fred Kfoury III/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images Although Aliaksei Protas (WSH), 21, likely will not be rosterable in fantasy for several seasons still, he has the best relative Corsi For% on the Capitals by a mile right now. Along with Nic Dowd and Garnet Hathaway, Protas is part of a crucial [...]
Ty Nelson Ty Nelson was taken in the 3rd round in 2022 by the Seattle Kraken. The 5’10” right-handed defender had 51 points in 66 games in his draft season. He is now up to 29 points in 24 games as the assistant captain for North Bay Battalion in the OHL. His Hockey Prospecting star [...]
21-year-old Bobby Brink (PHI), last year’s leading NCAA scorer, is on track to return in late December from a hip injury sustained during off-season training that required surgery. He is set to report to the Lehigh Phantoms (AHL) when he does. If he can pick up where he left off at the end of last [...]
