Observations:

February 2018 – All this kid does is score goals. Debrincat passed the 20 goal mark in February and could push for 30 if he remains healthy. Keep an eye on the line of Debrincat, Schmaltz and Duclair. They have found some chemistry since being put together and could be a force if they remain on the same line down the stretch. Tony Carr

December 2017- another month, another record for the scoring dynamo. Debrincat recorded 10 goals in the month of November, the first Blackhawks rookie to do so. This has earned him a promotion to the top line skating alongside Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad. There is seemingly no limit to his talent. Tony Carr

November 2017- Seeing more time in the top six, Debrincat is starting to score at a pace more consistent with expectations. Now that the transition has been made to a full time NHL’er, the scoring confidence has been on display more and more. Seeing more than two minutes per game on the power play, expect to see his goal numbers increase. Debrincat currently sits in the top ten for rookie scoring while trailing only Patrick Kane on the Blackhawks. Tony Carr

September 2017- Debrincat is robotic in the very best sense of the word. I’m sure someone just flips a switch from “normal” to “score” before warm ups. After an underwhelming performance at the Blackhawks prospect camp, he must have gotten an oil change, because he turned back into a scoring machine at the Traverse City Prospects tournament, leading the tournament in goals, including the the tying and winning goal (in overtime) in the final game. Tony Carr

May 2017 – in one of the greatest, record breaking seasons ever by an American born player, Debrincat has been named the CHL’s player of the year. The numbers speak for themselves: 127 regular season points in 63 games; 38 OHL playoff points in 22 games; 10 Memorial Cup points in five games. Debrincat is a point producing machine but that’s not all he does on the ice. He has been a plus player his entire OHL career and has a very nasty edge to his game when pushed. His time might be now with shakeups promised in Chicago. Tony Carr

April 2017 – The Erie Otters leading scorer hasn’t slowed down in the payoffs at all, with 27 points in his first 13 games. It will be interesting to see if the changes that will occur from the Blackhawks early playoff exit will include Debrincat skating in a top six role to start next season. Tony Carr

March 2017 – Debrincat is on a torrid pace in the OHL, tearing up the league with ease. He notched his 62nd goal of the season (to go with 59 assists in 59 games) and by doing so, tied an OHL record with a goal in 19 consecutive games (Mike Ricci-1988). In February, he became the career goal scoring leader by an American born player in OHL history, surpassing Rob Schremp. Tony Carr

February 2017 – Debrincat continues to score at will, reaching the 100 point mark for a third straight season. This is only the eighth time in OHL history a player has reached this plateau and the first since John Tavares in 2009. He sits two goals shy of hitting the 50 goal mark, also for the third straight season, and four goals shy of Rob Schremp for the most career goals by an American born player. Tony Carr

January 2017 – Since being cut by the gold-medal-winning USA junior squad, Debrincat hasn’t let his production suffer, currently leading the OHL in goals and maintaining his pace just shy of a goal-per -ame. ~ Tony Carr

November 2016 – Debrincat has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Blackhawks Averaging two-and-a-half points per game so far this season, including 17 goals in 14 games, Debrincat sits second in overall scoring in the OHL while helping lead the Erie Otters to first place in the overall standings. Tony Carr

June 2016 – Having taste success with small/slender offensive dynamos such as Patrick Kane and Artermy Panarin, the Blackhawks began restocking their prospect cupboard with this Mighty Mite fairly high in the second round. Mark Allan

November 2015 – There are two things you need to know about DeBrincat but only one matters; He is very short and has elite offensive skills. His size is not important as his offensive skills and instincts are elite level. The OHL scoring leader can raise fans out of their seats with highlight reel goals and plays. The fact he is only 5’7” is not irrelevant but in all the viewings I have had of DeBrincat, he has not been hit because he keeps his head up, his feet and the puck moving. He may not be finished growing as he is only 18 years old and he is only two inches shorter than Johnny Gaudreau. Peter Harling

February 2016 – The fact that he is two inches shorter than Johnny Gaudreau, and that he had a disappointing WJC with USA are the only reasons why he is not in the top ten. DeBrincat is an electrifying offensive wizard with the puck. His skills, hockey sense and creativity are off the charts good. Survives the physical side of the game by virtue of always playing with his head up, keeping his feet moving and has excellent agility and quickness making him very difficult to hit. All these traits should translate to success at higher levels, if not all the way to the NHL. Peter Harling

Fantasy Outlook: B-

DeBrincat is an electrifying offensive player who has top-six upside not unlike Johnny Gaudreau. He must score to be in the NHL as he brings little else. He is a few years away with huge upside but a huge risk as well.
