Observations:

December 2017 – Herzog's stock has faded. The Leafs fifth round pick from the 2013 draft is now 23 and any shot he might have had for the NHL is fading fast. He played five games for the Marlies in 2013 with zero points. He was sent back to the Swiss A league where he has been now for four years. He is at best an average player for Zurich SC. The likelihood of Herzog coming over to North America is very unlikely. Brian Harling

September 2017 – Things were looking rather good for Swiss winger to re-cross on an opportunity to join the Toronto Marlies, but instead the organization has found it better that he continues development on the ZSC Lions. After showing his ability to compliment talent, he will need to show that he himself can drive the bus. To start the season he has produced only a single point in seven games which is a little disappointing. He remains a very long shot, but familiarity with #1 draftee Auston Matthews could help one day. Jason Banks

December 2015 – Finally finding his stride in pro hockey, Herzog has found production playing with the likes of Robert Nilsson and Auston Matthews for ZSC in the Swiss League. He is expected to be returning from a minor arm injury that has cost him a couple weeks, but currently has 13 points in 17 games which is near the leaders of the team for the 20-year-old. He still has another year to serve of his contract following the current one. Monitoring his growth will be key, size and talents are attractive when he re-appears on fantasy prospect radars. Jason Banks

February 2015 – Herzog has shown limited growth in his return to the Swiss league accumulating a mere eight points (six goals) in 37 games. On the positive side Herzog has attracted interest from a consistent contender in the NLA, and has signed for a two more years in Europe with ZSC. As a 5th round pick he is more of a project prospect, his rights remain secure for years to come, so we can sit and watch his development from afar until he is ready to re-cross the pond. Jason Banks

July 2014 – After completing his junior season for the Quebec Remparts, Herzog signed for his former team Zug of the Swiss league, likely with management’s blessing. At the age of 19, he will gain a year of development with professional men while not burning a year of an NHL entry level contract he has yet to sign. He will also be included in Leafs Prospect Camp to be held in London, Ontario in early July. Herzog does qualify as an underage player at the AHL level, but ice time would be questionable as the team is currently semi-developed and he would be best served with lower class players to harness his abilities and confidence. Jason Banks

November 2013 – Herzog is a rather sizable, talented goal scorer that could become a power winger in the future on the right side. He added almost 20 pounds from his draft listing to his current QMJHL weight but should still add more muscle as he grows into his frame. Playing in junior this season is a downgrade in development, considering last year he was playing Swiss pro with several former NHL players and other professional vets, but this is a good low pressure way to become accustom to North American hockey He has adjusted excellently as he sits inside the top 15 in ‘Q’ goal scoring with 20 in 34 games. He will of course suit up for the Swiss national junior team and will be relied upon as an offensive weapon and likely wear a letter on his jersey. The Leafs seem to have made solid 5th round selection here, but questions arise if he will have the same impacts as he turns pro, this time in North America. Jason Banks

Fantasy Outlook: C+

Many signs point to him becoming an impact goal scoring winger. Await his transition to the AHL before rolling the dice on him.
