Observations:

May 2013 – The New York Rangers have passed up on their opportunity to sign McColgan before the deadline. He will now re-enter the NHL entry draft. His offensive production had not increased throughout his time with the Saskatoon Blades, and did not make enough of impression during the Memorial Cup to get a contract offer from the blue shirts. Brendan Collins

February 2013 – McColgan has maintained similar production with the Blades all season long. He has 54 points in 53 games. His team is starting to heat up so it will be interesting to see how he does come playoff time. McColgan has close to 300 games of WHL experience and will most likely make the move to either the AHL or ECHL next year. Zenon Herasymiuk

November 2012 – McColgan was traded to the Memorial Cup hosts, the Saskatoon Blades in the offseason. He has continued his normal production with his new club as he has 23 points in 21 games. The chance to play in the Memorial Cup and be a part of a long playoff run will be beneficial for McColgan’s growth as a prospect. – Zenon Herasymiuk

June 2012 – McColgan finished up his 4 year WHL career with the Kelowna Rockets by putting up 64 points in 70 games. Unlike last season where the Rockets had a long playoff run and McColgan was a huge part of it, this year the Rockets got bounced in 4 games. McColgan hasn’t progressed much offensively over the last 3 seasons and has actually declined in scoring from 69 points 2 years ago.  Having signed a contract with the Rangers he played in a 4 game AHL tryout after his season was over. Expect McColgan to start out next season in the AHL. Todd Poole

February 2012 – While Shane McColgan continues to put up solid numbers, it may concern Rangers fans that we have not seen an increase in production from year to year. After putting up 69 and 66 points in his first two seasons, McColgan is again on pace for 67 points this year. He is a small, feisty, winger that also has good vision and impeccable speed and energy. Standing at only 5’9, size is the main issue that McColgan faces in his hockey career. The Kelowna Rockets need him to lead them if they have any hopes of winning a playoff round this season. Zenon Herasymiuk

Fantasy Outlook: C-

McColgan could produce if put in the right situation. Won’t arrive for at least 3-4 years.
