Prospect Ramblings – Awards and Pre-Draft Day Talk – June 21 2018

Welcome to this Thursday ramblings, or as I am calling it the “pre-draft day prospect reading” day.

**************

So what can I really say? I know I will be tuning in to the draft day festivities and having to miss most of my baseball game Friday. I just hope this time the draft does not take two plus hours as I swear last years did. I remember sitting there saying “can you just hurry up!!!” As they all went over their five minute allotted time and there were so many commercials. Anyway this is to say I just hope it goes faster and isn’t as frustratingly boring thanks to the on air personalities.

Funny draft day Bill Burr segment (no this is not how I feel on the subject of watching the draft, I just love Bill Burr):

OMG MY BOY TAYLOR HALL WON THE MVP AWARD!!!!!!!! LOL OILERS!!!!!

Sorry Oilers fans… you deserve so much better than Chiarelli

Well since we are on the Prospect Ramblings and the awards just happened it has given me a great thing to highlight!

Mat Barzal kind of ran away with the Calder voting with oh just 158 more first place votes than second place. Pretty much deserved. I hope Tavares stays on the Islanders so we can see a JT-Barzal led team terrorize the league for many years. ….Also sorry Oilers fans as Griffin Reinhart never really panned out, like absolutely NO ONE predicted.

Boeser getting second place was also deserved, I wonder if voting would have been tighter had he been healthy all year.

Very tight race all around as Keller just edged out McAvoy and Gourde for third. No complaints

Hilarious find on twitter:

Let me know if you notice something odd about the all-star voting for centre from the PROFESSIONAL Hockey Writers Association:

{source}<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>Voting for the NHL All-Star Teams by members of the PHWA.<br><br>Center: <a href=”https://t.co/UEQ7aWMBI3″>pic.twitter.com/UEQ7aWMBI3</a></p>&mdash; PHWA (@ThePHWA) <a href=”https://twitter.com/ThePHWA/status/1009623315483381763?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”>June 21, 2018</a></blockquote>

If you didn’t spot it well apparently Taylor Hall got a first place vote for centre. And Claude Giroux got two second place votes and seven thirds… where he played the majority of the year (if not all of it) at LW.

You’ll see Giroux second here:

And on RW here:

{source}<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>Right wing: <a href=”https://t.co/eJ9qoRcSae”>pic.twitter.com/eJ9qoRcSae</a></p>&mdash; PHWA (@ThePHWA) <a href=”https://twitter.com/ThePHWA/status/1009623442138849282?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”>June 21, 2018</a></blockquote>

Anyway, I can’t wait to see who voted for these players out of position. Remember the year we had Ovechkin finish first at LW and second on RW?

Here is the PHWA’s all-rookie team:

Now to end on where I am picking in my pools…. But I cannot give my plans away as I think too many people in my pools know I write here…. And I don’t want my picks taken! But next week you will know the results!

League one:

H2H league that has set positions, counts H+B, G, A, +/- (changing soon), PIM, STPs, and GWG+SHGWG, I have:

1-3, 1-7, 1-13 and 1-15. Pretty good haul for a quick rebuild on my part as I plan on being a good team come 2019-2020. I recently traded for 1-3 in a trade that involved me sending Murray away and getting Demko, there were other parts in the deal as it was pretty even.

I can say though that I will take Zadina at three no matter what.

League two:

H2H, points only, no set positions aside for F and D, I have:

1-11, 2-7, and 3-5… I think as the league was just reset at my time of writing this as the Commish is having some trouble putting it together. I plan on taking any fallers

Side note I always mess up my leagues draft the first time, every time. (60% of the time it works 100% of the time)

Well that is all for me tonight. I look forward to watching the draft tomorrow! I hope you are too. Good luck drafting, unless you are in my leagues then leave me the best players thanks.

Twitter: @FHPQuinn … you people need to follow it I am hilarious!
