Observations:

May 2017 – The young puck-moving blue liner is maybe the forgotten man in this year’s deep NHL rookie class. Morrissey managed to play 82 games with the Jets and showed he can be an effective offensive-minded defender as he notched 20 points on the season. The young defender is just starting to fill out his frame, which can only help him as he handles the day-in and day-out rigors of the pro game.  Morrissey should only get better with time and as he’s afforded more minutes on an already crowded blue line in Winnipeg. – David Dickenson

October 2016 – Morrissey made the Winnipeg Jets' opening day 22-man roster for the 2016-17 season. – David Dickenson

September 2016 – Morrissey started the 2015-16 season off slowly with his pro debut with the Manitoba Moose, but as the season went on his game improved by leaps and bounds. Using his elite passing and ability to rush the puck up ice, he managed to net 22 points in 57 games with the Moose and earn a one game call-up with the Jets. Morrissey should be the first call when the Jets blue line suffers injuries this season and once he finally gets his chance could be there to stay. David Dickenson

November 2015 – Morrissey followed up an uneventful camp with a dismal start to his AHL career. Accustomed to putting up huge numbers in the WHL, he has yet to get his first point for Manitoba after 11 games. To be fair, he has a weak team (in terms of offense) to play with, since all the young guns are with the Jets, but still – zero points is not a great start. Dobber

April 2014 – Josh Morrissey has been sent to the St. John Icecaps in the AHL. The puck-moving defenceman just concluded his season with the Prince Albert Raiders and was knocked out of the first round of the WHL playoffs by the Edmonton Oil Kings. He will probably get a look in the final stretch of the AHL season. Kevin Won

March 2014 – Josh Morrissey has been named to the WHL 1st All-Star Team in the Eastern Conference. Morrissey finished 2nd in WHL defensive scoring with 73 points (28 goals and 45 assists) in 59 games, 12 games less than the leading defenceman Shea Theodore (79 in 70 games). He is currently playing in the WHL Playoffs with the Raiders against the Oil Kings and are down 3-0 in the series. Morrissey is projected to be a high end puck moving defenceman. He will also serve very well in leagues that value PIMs. Kevin Won

February 2014 – Morrissey is currently 3rd in WHL defensive scoring with 21 goals and 35 assists in 45 games, only behind fellow-Team Canada member Derrick Pouliot and Anaheim prospect Shea Theodore. He is currently on a seven-game scoring streak and has 17 points in his last 11 games. 10 of his 21 goals have been on the power play. Kevin Won

December 2013 – Josh Morrissey is one of seven defensemen named to Team Canada for the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championships in Malmo, Sweden. Canada will look to Morrissey to push the pace from the backend with his top-end puck rushing skills and hold the fort in the defensive zone with his underrated containment skills. Brendan Ross

October 2013 – The Jets signed their 2013 1st round selection to a three-year entry level contract worth $1.4 million on October 3, 2013. The offensive rearguard was recently assigned to the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders, where he's posted five points in his first three games. Brendan Ross

December 2012 – Josh Morrissey is a gifted offensive defenseman with the ability to contribute offense on both the power play and in five-on-five situations. Morrissey is an unbelievable skater and also has the ability to throw some big open ice checks if the opportunity presents itself.  In 35 games this year for the Prince Albert Raiders, Morrissey has compiled 25 points. He will have to continue to improve his defensive game as well as adding a bit of size to his frame to be successful at the next level. Morrissey will play for Team Cherry at the Home Hardware CHL/NHL Prospects Game in January. Zenon Herasymiuk

Fantasy Outlook: A

Showed he could stand up to the NHL rigors as a rookie and will only get better as he gets stronger. The only thing holding him back from higher offensive output is the logjam of strong defenders on the Jets blue line. Morrissey is looking more and more like a fantasy gem of an offensive defenceman.
