Observations:

December 2015 – Knight has made quite an impression since his recent call-up to the NHL Florida Panthers. Through five games played since his December call-up, Knight has three points while skating an average of only ten minutes per game. Prior to his fifth game where he only won one face-off, he had been averaging almost eight wins per game in the circle. His production may force the Panthers to expand his opportunity of ice-time in the near future with with his scoring rate in such a limited capacity, although once the Panthers are fully healthy that opportunity may not last very long this season for Knight. – Lee Rayson

 

March 2015 – Knight has been a bright spot for the San Antonio Rampage since his acquisition earlier this season.  He has produced a modest 11 points in 18 games with his new team.  He scored a goal and added an assist in his most recent game on March 5th versus Chicago. Lee Rayson

 

January 2015 – The Calgary Flames have traded Corban Knight to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Drew Shore.  Knight was originally a draft pick of the Panthers in 2009, and is currently in his second professional season.  He had a successful rookie campaign in the AHL last year scoring 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points in 70 games.  He showed he also plays with a bit of an edge with his 50 PIMs.  At the time of the trade, he had eight goals and four assists totalling 12 points in 22 games with the AHL Flames.  It is expected that he is headed to Florida's AHL affiliate the San Antonio Rampage. Lee Rayson

 

May 2014 – Knight is a spark-plug. He is skating from the time he steps on the ice till he hits the bench. A work-horse some would say. He turned in 45 points in 70 games and was a plus-11 for the Heat in his first season as a pro. He also suited up for seven games for the Flames scoring his first NHL goal in the stint. Knight will battle for a third line center spot on the big club when camp starts up and depending where the chips fall he could see some time in the NHL. I feel it is a little early yet to say he will stick full time but once he has another season under his belt the picture should be a lot clearer. Knight needs to concentrate on making an impact right away as there are plenty of other options to scoop up his spot. One thing he has going for him is he is above average in the face-off circle. If he can translate that into the NHL his stock will rise considerably. Brad Wilson

 

June 2013 – Corban Knight was recently acquired by the Calgary Flames from the Florida Panthers for a fourth round draft pick. Knight’s agent could not come to terms with the Panthers, who have drafted  Jonathon Huberdeau, Vincent Trocheck, Nick Bjugstad and Quinton Howden, and informed Florida that his client would wait until August 15^th (free agency), or would consider a trade. A self-described late bloomer, Knight could become a poster boy for developing your trade in US College Hockey. While he was not even selected in the bantam draft, he played well in the Alberta Midget Hockey League, leading the league in scoring his second year and was the rookie of the year for Okotoks in the AJHL. He was used sparingly his first year as a 19-year-old freshman in North Dakota, playing against opponents two and three years older, but his hard work soon paid off. He blossomed into a point-per-game player his next season and averaged over 45 points per game his final three years with the Fighting Sioux. This season he was one of the ten finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, finished in the top ten in scoring in the nation, sustained a 19 game point streak (the longest at UND in the last 25 years), and had points in 29 games this year, second in the nation. While his offensive prowess is clear, Knight insists the strengths of his game are faceoffs and his defensive game. He won 60% of his draws this year and averaged 58% the last three years. He can also be difficult to play against, with a surprising energy level for a young man his size. He is thought to be a good character player despite a one game suspension in 2012, along with three other captains following a team party. Sheldon Curtis

 

Fantasy Outlook: C-

Knight will look to secure a place as a third-line center, and may be a player that rises to a new level in the playoffs, taking key faceoffs and frustrating other team’s scoring threats with his defensive awareness and hockey sense. While he doens't have a ton of value in points-only leagues, he will contribute with faceoffs, plus-minus and a few PIMs/hits sprinkled in.
