Derrick Pouliot is toying with the AHL. Eight games, returning from a serious shoulder injury mind you, he has eight points and is already just two shy of the team lead. When he finally does make the Penguins, his upside will be the highest that the team has seen since the Paul Coffey/Larry Murphy days. The guy is gonna put points on the board, and likely very quickly. Assuming that the bum shoulder doesn’t make a return.

You’d think that the Devils have enough quality coming up the pipeline when it comes to the blue line. After all, Eric Gelinas, Jon Merrill and Damon Severson are so good that the team can’t send them down. Too good. But Raman Hrabarenka has 11 points in 11 AHL games. The 22-year-old signed with the Devils as a free agent in 2013 and posted just under a point every two games for Albany last season. But now he’s really found his stride as a puck mover. He boasts size (6-3, 202) and this newfound offense at the AHL level would normally see him get a shot with a lot of NHL teams at some point this season. However, this being New Jersey and the team already having the ‘Big 3’ as well as Adam Larsson, Hrabarenka will have to wait awhile for his chance. If he even gets one.{source}

Mat Bodie is another solid defenseman prospect. The Rangers signed him this past summer and whenever you see a college free agent defenseman sign, you’re not sure if you’re getting a Jack Hillen, Matt Gilroy or Danny DeKeyser. Bodie is off to a good start, with nine points in his first 12 pro games for Hartford. He’ll need to add some bulk though, and being 24 years of age his window of opportunity will be short.
