Observations:

February 2015 – Blacker has taken full advantage of his opportunity with his new team, posting nine points in his first 12 games with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL.  He had a fantastic month of January where he posting eight points in nine games.  He has seen a significant increase in his shot totals and is averaging just under three shots-per-game since the trade. If Florida decides to be a seller at the trade deadline, the 23-year-old rearguard may even be a late season call up to gain experience.   Lee Rayson

January 2015 – Blacker has started off strong offensively with his new team, posting two goals and one assist in his first three games with the San Antonio Rampage. He has also generated an impressive 11 shots on goal in those three games. This offensively gifted defenceman is looking like he could break out given the right opportunity with the Rampage.   – Lee Rayson

December 2014 – Blacker was traded from the Anaheim Ducks to the Florida Panthers on December 4th in exchange for Colby Robak.  Blacker had appeared in 15 AHL games registering five assists with the Norfolk Admirals.  The fluid skating defenseman will look to further develop his game with the San Antonio Rampage, Florida’s AHL affiliate.  Lee Rayson

October 2014 – Jesse Blacker has be reassigned to the Norfolk Admirals. He will looked upon to be a powerplay quarterback for an already strong prospect system. –Kevin Won

April 2014 – Jesse Blacker finished the regular season with the Norfolk Admirals, posting 24 points in 50 games. This is quite promising because Blacker spent the better part of three years struggling in the Marlies’ system. He will be looked upon to step it up another notch if he hopes to land a full-time NHL gig. –Kevin Won

November, 2013 – The Anaheim Ducks have acquired Jesse Blacker and two draft picks for Peter Holland and Brad Staubitz. The Ducks seemed to be dealing from a position of strength as they have a glut of young forwards in their system, and with a few of them returning soon Holland was the odd man out. Jesse Blacker is an offensive defenceman who has struggled since transitioning to the AHL with 29 points in 130 games over the past two seasons. Perhaps a change of scenery will do well for Blacker who came from a Maple Leaf organization with a deep defensive system and not much opportunity. –Kevin Won

September 2013 – Last season was semi-forgettable for Blacker, on one hand he did receive a pair of recalls to the big club, but on the other his role was undefined and he showed little drive in his game. In his transition from junior to pro his production dropped 70% yet his aggressive play was still noticeable, his sophomore season saw his production drop over 35% and his edginess all but disappear. Toronto management still speaks highly of him to the fans of the organization, but there seems to be little substance to his play. In his final season of his entry level contract, Blacker will need to show a large season of growth otherwise the team may cut ties with the former second round pick. Fantasy managers should not be holding or even watching Blacker at this time. Jason Banks

December 2012 – Blacker is having a growing year behind a wealth of veteran players. He has been inconsistent in the third pairing slot but has also been a frequent scratch with the team carrying 8 defensemen. His offensive role is nonexistent with Jake Gardiner, Mike Koska and Paul Ranger eating most of the meaningful power play minutes. Jason Banks

May, 2012 – After four seasons in the OHL, Jesse Blacker played his first year in pro hockey with the Toronto Marlies this season. Blacker is a very calm and poised defenseman with very good positioning. He’s also a great skater who loves to move the puck up the ice. He isn’t overly physical as he focuses on smart defense more than he does on the big hit. He has learned a lot under Marlies Coach Dallas Eakins and may be ready for NHL action next season, at least as a call-up. –Justin Shemie

Fantasy Outlook: C+

Blacker clearly has the offensive ability to produce in the professional ranks but needs to continue the development in the defensive end to see increased future success.

Footage: Blacker steals the puck, skates it all the way up, then snipes it.
