Observations:
May 25, 2016 – Mike Halmo scored a career high 22 goals for Bridgeport in 2015-16. He also added 117 penalty minutes. He showed a unique combination of grit and scoring touch, which would be welcomed by fantasy owners. However, this marks two straight seasons now where Halmo did not earn a call-up to the Islanders. He is a Group VI free agent on July 1, 2016 and may be tempted to explore his options elsewhere. Brent Craswell
June 2014 – Halmo had a successful season between the Sound Tigers and the Islanders. His 38 points in 56 AHL games was helped by being on the top line with Strome and Lee but he showed he has a flair for the ruff stuff in a fourth line role while called up to the Isles. Mike scored his first NHL goal and had 32 penalty minutes and a minus-1 in his 20 game NHL debut. He logged 137 penalty minutes with a plus-11 and 38 points in 56 AHL games. Halmo has one year left on his contract with the Isles. Brad Wilson
March 2014 – Halmo had his emergency loan terminated as Nielson sets to return from injury. Halmo had a successful first showing with the big club and was noticeable nearly every time he hit the ice. He landed eight hits in his two games, some of which were down right bone crushing, (ask Phil Kessel). We haven't heard the last of this spirited banger. Brad Wilson
February 2014 – Mike Halmo didn't waste his first shot at an NHL game. In his big league debut, the spark plug threw four big hits, one of which was during his first shift of the game where he leveled Phil Kessel in an open ice train wreck. Halmo finished the game with one shot and four hits in 9:01 of ice time. Brad Wilson
February 2014 – Halmo has been called up by the Islanders along with his AHL line-mates, Lee and Strome. Halmo has had a strong year on the right wing of the Sound Tigers top line. We will now see how he handles life in the NHL from the fourth line. He was on the right flank of Cizikas in his first practice with the big club. Brad Wilson
January 2014 – Halmo has taken a shot on the top line and turned it into a killer season. He currently sits third in team scoring for Bridgeport with 30 points in 44 games. Continue to monitor him, if this play continues he could find himself in the running for a job on the big club. Brad Wilson
November 2013 – Halmo has found a home on the right wing of Ryan Strome atop the Bridgeport lineup. He has been heating up and has pushed his numbers to six goals and 10-points in eight games. If the trio of Halmo, Strome and Lee continue to gel it could be a very productive season for the line. Brad Wilson
April 2013 – After leading the OHL's Owen Sound Attack in scoring and penalty minutes, in March 2012, Mike Halmo signed a three-year, entry-level contract as a free agent with the New York Islanders. Halmo made his pro debut with the AHL Bridgeport Sound Tigers, scoring one goal and finishing plus-1 with one fighting major in five games. In his final season with Owen Sound, Halmo scored 40 goals with 45 assists and was plus-24 with 162 penalty minutes in 66 games. Halmo received a controversial suspension to end his OHL career after a hit on Edmonton Oilers prospect, Nail Yakupov. In 46 games with Bridgeport so far this season, Halmo has 14 points and 46 penalty minutes. Brad Wilson
A worthy fourth line forward, Halmo will see time with the Islanders on occasion. He has yet to be given the opportunity to become an everyday NHL'er though. He has grit and determination to burn so if he gets his shot look for him to run with it.
