Observations:

 

March 2015 – After missing a month with what could have been the strangest injury of the NHL season, the 25 year old rookie blue liner has been solid in his return to the lineup.  Since suffering a deep laceration in a pre game warmup of hallway soccer with teammates that sidelined him for 12 games, Borowiecki has contributed to the Senators solid play down the stretch.  In 15 contests since his injury, Borowiecki has showcased the strengths of his game with 39 hits and 27 blocked shots, while chipping in three points and playing to a plus nine rating. Though he has never been an offensive contributor, the strong defenseman does have some value in multi-category leagues that feature wins for hits, blocked shots, plus minus, and penalty minutes.Kevin LeBlanc 

 

May 2014 – Borowiecki and the Binghamton Senators had a strong regular season, winning the East division of the AHL. Unfortunately their Calder Cup aspirations were cut short, getting knocked off in the first round by the Wilkes-Barrie Penguins.  The Ottawa native is most likely going to get a shot with the big club come September of 2014.  Borowiecki brings a rugged, hard-nosed style of game that quite frankly was missing on Ottawa’s blue line all year.  Thinking that he will pile up points at any time is career is a stretch, but in leagues that include hits, blocked shots and PIMS, he could be a huge asset. He’s also incredibly difficult to play against, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him maintain a solid plus-minus. If he cracks the lineup and continues to play like he has in the past he could be around for quite a while. Nathan Martin

 

December 2013 – Mark Borowiecki has been reassigned to the Binghamton Senators of the AHL. The hometown kid turned a lot of heads in his 13 games with the big club. Borowiecki demonstrated his physical style of game, racking up hits and blocked shots, sitting in the box for 48 minutes (including three fights), and also getting his first NHL goal. Two separate times in his NHL stint Borowiecki was challenged to fight after one of his big, clean hits, and was able to defend himself with ease. This certainly will not be the last of Borowiecki in Ottawa, as he brings a physicality to Ottawa’s blue line that is needed desperately.  Expect him to be on the opening day roster in 2014-2015. – Nathan Martin

 

October 2013 – Mark Borowiecki had yet another strong training camp in Ottawa. The hometown kid is the model of consistency on the blueline; plays physical, shows to be responsible, makes good decisions in his own end and is also one of the nastiest prospects in the Sens organization. There’s not much more Borowiecki can do to prove what he he’s capable of, unfortunately Ottawa has a blueline that has been set since training camp. If Borowiecki can wait out aging Chris Phillips, or if Eric Gryba continues to play the way he has, he could be a great addition to the Sens blueline. Fantasy wise, Borowiecki will pile up the shot blocks, hits and PIMs. Nathan Martin

 

July 2012 – Mark Borowiecki is a stay-at-home defenseman who brings a high level of physicality and nastiness to the table. Drafted out of the CJHL, he spent four years in the NCAA with Clarkson University and captained the team in his senior year. Right after his college career was complete in 2011, he stepped into the AHL and helped the Binghamton Senators capture the Calder Cup. This past season, Borowiecki was named to the AHL All-Star Game and earned a brief call-up to the Ottawa Senators. He has displayed excellent work ethic off the ice, winning the “Hardest Working Player” award at the previous two Ottawa Senators development camps. Borowiecki is a good bet to earn an NHL roster spot with the Senators this fall. Evan Hotham

 

 

Fantasy Outlook: D+ (C+ in leagues that count physical stats)

While Borowiecki does not possess high offensive upside, he is a lock for the NHL and will be valuable in leagues that incorporate hits, blocked shots, and PIM.
