Observations:

May 23, 2016 – Johan Sundstrom left the Islanders organization after the 2014-15 season, signing with Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League.  He finished fourth in scoring for Frolunda, posting 17 goals and 36 points in 51 games. Sundstrom is contracted to play with Frolunda again next year. Brent Craswell

May 2014 – Sundstrom finished with one assist in 11 games in an Islanders jersey. There could be some potential that he starts in a fourth line role opposite Mike Halmo who finished strong. Brad Wilson

March 2014 – Sundstrom has made his isles debut as we close in on the end of their 2013-14 campaign. He is seeing time on the fourth line and in his fourth game (still in action as of this writing) he has potted his first career NHL point with an assist on the Isles opening goal. Brad Wilson

October – Sundstrom will once again join the Sound Tigers for the 2013-2014 season after being one of the final cuts in Islander Camp. The youngster was one of 15 players sent down by the Islanders as they ready for the start of the regular season. Brad Wilson

April 2013 –  Sundstrom uses his 6-foor-3 frame to battle his way into the high-traffic areas. He has proven to be a hardworking player with good hockey sense and some added offensive punch. At the USA Hockey National Junior Selection Camp in 2011 Sundstrom left most of the Islanders top talent evaluators stunned with his talent. He has shown the ability to shoot the puck, generate offense with his speed and that he could be used on the penalty kill. A member of the 2011/12 U20 WJC Gold Medal Sweden team and currently with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the AHL, Sundstrom has shown some real improvements this year. This season the durable centre (who can also play wing), has 30 points in 54 games. Sundstrom was resigned by the Islanders in 2012 to a three-year entry level contract. Sam Friedman

Fantasy Outlook: D-

Sundstrom has left for Sweden and may not come back.  However, given his strong first season in the SHL, there may be opportunities for him to return to North America if he is so inclined.
