Observations:

November 2015 – Playing in his second full NHL season, Damon Severson is already half-way to last year's 12 assists and it's only been 15 games. Averaging just shy of three minutes-per-game on the powerplay and over 17 minutes-per-game, the offensive minded defender is slowly climbing the depth chart. Look for Severson to be leaned on in the future as one of the Devils' go-to offensive defensemen. Brendan Ross

 

October 2014 – Damon Severson shocked many by making the final roster cut for the New Jersey Devils.  While the organization is not known for bringing in rookies to the NHL level without any time in the AHL, Severson obviously provided enough all-around ability and confidence in the preseason to break the mold.  Currently being paired with top Devils defensemen Andy Greene, Severson should receive plenty of NHL exposure-including powerplay time.  If Severson can find early success on the man advantage, which his puck moving ability and booming slap shot suggest he could, a fantasy impact this season is not out of the question.  Michael Riggi

 

June 2014- Damon Severson continued his development with Kelowna Rockets by posting career highs, ending the year with 15 goals and 46 assists in only 64 games played.  He is quickly establishing himself as one of the elite WHL defensemen finishing top 10 in scoring amongst the position as well as leading the Rockets with 18 points in the playoffs.  With all of his tools Severson is looking like top four material for the New Jersey Devils.- Michael Riggi

 

December 2013 – Despite making Hockey Canada's final camp for the 2014 World Junior Championships, Damon Severson was the final defenseman cut from the camp roster and will unfortunately not suit up for the Canucks. Outlasted by Aaron Ekblad, Mathew Dumba, Adam Pelech, Derrick Pouliot, Josh Morrissey, Chris Bigras and Griffin Reinhart, Severson still had a strong camp but his mobility wasn't quite on the same level as the other defenders. July 2013- Severson finished up an outstanding 2012-13 season with 52 points in 71 games which included a plus-43 rating. He went on to post 10 points in 11 playoff contests with Kelowna of the WHL. His performance didn't go unnoticed by the Devils brass. In his entry on the Fire & Ice blog, Tom Gulitti noted that GM Lou Lamoriello wants to bring one of his young defensemen up to the big club. Severson's name was one of the players that came up in that discussion. It might be a long shot that Severson breaks camp with the Devils, but he has clearly made a name for himself among the front office staff. As long as he continues to progress, as he has every season, his wait to don the red shouldn't be too long. Rex Doty

 

February 2013 – Severson has been on an offensive tear recently. In 21 games since the start of December he has 22 points raising his season total to 43. He is a big time leader on the Kelowna Rockets backend and will be one of the WHL’s top defenseman next year. Zenon Herasymiuk

 

November 2012 – Severson isn’t off to the hottest start offensively, but I still playing well. The Devils prospect has eight points in 21 games this year. Although his drop in numbers seems alarming, there is no need to worry as the defensive side of his game is continuing to grow and the potential for offense is still there. – Zenon Herasymiuk

 

March, 2012  – A bruising bodychecker who makes a decent first pass, the Kelowna Rockets’ Damon Severson could be a late first-round pick this coming June. The 17-year-old’s size and hard-nosed physical game virtually ensure him NHL duty at some point down the line but his puck skills could use further refinement. He is likely at least two years from the pros. John Canario

 

Fantasy Outlook: C+
He looks like a can’t-miss NHLer but his skills won’t necessarily translate into offensive fantasy value, though he will tally lofty penalty and hit totals.
