Observations:

April 2013- Justin Peters was called up to fill in as a back up for the Injured Cam Ward and at times was looked to as a starter. Peters struggled early and often in his stint with the Hurricanes and ended the season with a losing record and an .891 save percentage. He is still looked to as a future starter but has a lot of work to do, especially in rebound control, and recovery, he also has to be better in his positioning as he finds himself over correcting or over reacting to initial shots. Look for Peters to get more time in a full season, Peters showed some signs of brilliance and he is still a young developing tender, time as back up to an elite tender will do him some good. Andrew Ward

November 2012 – Peters has struggled to live up to his mid-second round draft position in pro hockey after an excellent junior career. Not that Peters has been bad, he has shown struggles with consistency at the NHL and AHL levels, some of this could be attributed to lack of opportunity to get into a rhythm at the NHL level behind Cam Ward. Still needs much work and was rushed into the NHL early while more deserving candidates have been passed over by Carolina over the years. In the off season he was resigned to a cheap two year contract, which was another ill-advised vote of confidence from the organization. Currently he is playing out the lockout in the AHL, working with veteran journeyman Dan Ellis. He has struggled to compete at the same level as Ellis, only posting a save percentage of .905 and a goals against average of 2.84, but he has five wins in seven starts with a shutout. Inconsistency continues to plague his efforts on a strong team. – Jason Banks

Fantasy Outlook: C-

Short term, he is a poor backup to hold due to lack of starts and quality of those he gets. Long term, looks rather bleak, as he seems on the edge of losing his NHL job and becoming a journeyman, depth goalie.

Footage: One of the early fights of Peters showing frustration and emotion, something that has developed into a lengthy history.
