Observations:

January 2018 – Like a lot of Oilers this season, Caggiula’s season hasn’t gone according to plan. The hope for him this season was for him to continue to develop and solidify his place in the Oiler top 9. He has battled a couple injuries since early October and hasn’t been consistent enough on the ice to prevent himself from being a healthy scratch for multiple games. Caggiula is a swift skater and has shown flashes of being able to contribute in an offensive role but his lack of scoring finish and his overall inconsistencies has appeared to caused him to fall out of favour with the coaching staff. He will need to have a strong second half of the season if he hopes to hold onto his spot on the team. Jameson Ewasiuk

November 2016 – In his first NHL game Cagguila got his first NHL point on an assist on Tyler Pitlick’s goal. Brayden Sully

October 2016 – After an impressive first showing at his first professional training camp, Caggiula has proven to Oilers fans why he was such a highly touted prospect coming out of college. He scored two goals in five games in pre-season, but a hip injury saw him miss the opening day line-up. Caggiula’s versatility will allow the Oilers to be able to experiment with him when healthy, he could play as a top six winger or a top nine center. Brayden Sullivan

May 2016 – Drake Caggiula has signed with the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent. Caggiula was dominant during the NCAA frozen four tournament leading North Dakota to a Championship while scoring four goals and claiming the tournament Most Outstanding Player award. Peter Harling

March 2016 – Caggiula chose to return for his senior year at UND but had undoubtedly received contract offers last summer, and was an invitee to the Buffalo Sabres camp.  In his final year he finished with 19 goals and 42 points in only 33 games played on the CBS line with Brock Boeser (Vancouver) and Nick Schmaltz (Chicago). Scouting reports on Caggiula describe him as an excellent skater, willing to play a physical game despite his smaller size. In fact, he is a physically aggressive checker and forechecker as well as a net front presence. He can score goals from a distance with an accurate and quick shot, and has excellent hand eye co-ordination for tips, and rebounds and greasy goals from just outside the blue paint. Peter Harling

Fantasy Outlook: B-

Has the potential to be a top 9 forward and be a complimentary player on a top six scoring line.
