Observations:
September 2014 – The 2014-15 season should mark Sceviour's first full-time stint in the NHL. Sceviour will have every opportunity to compete for a spot with the Stars after lighting up the AHL(32 goals, 31 assists in 54 games) prior to bringing his hot hand north to Big D to end the season. In his 26 games in 2014 with Dallas he logged eight goals and 12 points. Sceviour has made steady improvement in every season of his AHL career, something that bodes well for the 25 year-old. – Rex Doty
March 12, 2014 – Sceviour was recalled from the AHL due to forwards Rich Peverley and Alex Chiasson being inactive for the Stars' 3-2 overtime win over the Blues on March 11. Scoring on the power play late in the first period to tie the game 1-1, he sent home a rebound from Alex Goligoski to mark his fourth goal in nine NHL appearances this season. “He’s a hard guy not to like because he’s got quick hands around the front of the net and it seems like every game he’s in on a great opportunity or he’s making a difference,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff via the team's official website. Logging 17:27 of ice time, including 1:37 on the power play, the AHL's scoring leader had two shots on goal playing alongside center Cody Eakin and left wing Erik Cole. Considering the unfortunate circumstances on the potential longevity of Peverley's health concerns moving forward, Sceviour may very well be NHL-bound for the remainder of the 2014 season and beyond. The 24-year-old is expected to remain in the lineup as Dallas looks to continue their hot streak against Calgary on March 14. The surging Stars are 11-2-3 in their last 15 games, currently holding the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Clayton Bailey
February 2014 – Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced this afternoon that forward Colton Sceviour has signed a two-year contract extension through the 2015-2016 NHL season. “Colton has been a very reliable and effective player for our organization during his professional hockey career,” Nill said via the Stars' official website. “He has become an elite player at the American Hockey League level and we look forward to his continued growth with the Dallas Stars.” The 24-year-old has recorded 238 points (98 goals, 140 assists) in 344 career games as a Texas Star, including a career-high and AHL leading 31 goals this season. Tallying five points in 10 career NHL appearances (three goals, two assists), Sceviour's one-way extension leaves us every reason to believe he's set to become a prime focal point in the Stars' offensive outlook moving forward. The former fourth-round selection in 2007 will earn $600,000 in 2015, followed by $700,000 in 2016. Clayton Bailey
February 2014 – Sceviour extended his point streak to three games by dishing out an assist to linemate Curtis McKenzie in third period of the Stars' 7-4 loss to Oklahoma City on Feb. 2. Recording a plus-one overall rating, he went on to register six shots on goal for the second consecutive game. Clayton Bailey
Feburary 2014 – Leading the Texas Stars to a 6-0 rout over the Marlies on Feb. 1, Sceviour had quite the second period to remember. After dishing out an assist to forward Curtis McKenzie, he went on to drop the gloves with Toronto forward Kenny Ryan less than a minute later. Just minutes after serving the fighting major, Sceviour assisted on defenseman Maxime Fortunus' fifth goal of the season, putting the Stars up 4-0 heading into the third and final frame. Recording his 22nd assist, the AHL's leading goal scorer jumped back into second place behind linemate Travis Morin for the league point scoring lead, improving his total to 49 on the season. Clayton Bailey
January 2014 – Sceviour added his 27th goal on the season in the Stars' 6-4 win at home against Grand Rapids on Jan. 24. Posting his most shots on goal (9) since Nov. 22, he contributed in what was a Texas Stars franchise record for total shots in a game (59). Sceviour's third period tally gives a him two goal lead over linemate Travis Morin (25) for the AHL's goal scoring title. Clayton Bailey
January 2014 – Continuing an apparent 'every other game' campaign in the month of January, the AHL's leading goal scorer recorded his sixth multiple-point effort in the last nine games – leading the Texas Stars to a 4-3 shootout victory at home against Iowa on Jan 22. Assisting on the tying power play goal in the third period, Sceviour also gave Texas the lead by adding to his league leading 26 goals this season, followed by beating Wild goaltender Johan Gustaffson in the Stars' opening shootout attempt. Clayton Bailey
January 2014 – Sceviour tallied three points (two goals, one assist) in the Texas Stars' 7-1 rout over the Charlotte Checkers on Jan. 17. Marking his eighth point (four goals, four assists) in the month of January thus far, he continues to lead the AHL in goal-scoring (25), while ranking third in points (43) behind linemate Travis Morin (55). The duo has become what is arguably the AHL's most explosive forward line, supported by the emergence of forward Curtis McKenzie, who has added another 38 points (13 goals, 25 assists) in 40 games for Texas. Sceviour will likely finish the remainder of the season as a consistent AHL'er as the Texas Stars continue their quest to the Calder Cup. Although, with the team in Dallas trending downward, the Stars could become light sellers at the NHL Trade Deadline. If expiring contracts such as forwards Ray Whitney and Vernon Fiddler are sent elsewhere come March 5., it's highly expected to see a dress rehearsal of what the 22-year old can do with a steady NHL opportunity. Clayton Bailey
January 2014 – Sceviour (37 points, 29 games) has been selected to represent the Texas Stars in the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic. The 24-year old currently leads the AHL in goals (22) and has appeared in eight NHL games for Dallas this season. He'll be joined by fellow Stars forward Travis Morin, who currently leads the AHL with 46 total points (Jan. 9). "It's hard to keep those guys off when they're leading in (goals and points)," said Texas coach Willie Desjardins. When one was up in Dallas the other one kept playing well without the (other)." The AHL All-Stars will compete against Farjestad (SHL) at the Mile One Centre in St. Johns, Newfoundland on Feb. 12. Clayton Bailey
December 2013 – Since being recalled from Texas on Dec. 9th, the former fourth round selection in 2007 has done nothing but excel in his limited NHL opportunities this season. Recording his first career NHL goal in his 2013 debut against the Winnipeg Jets, Sceviour now has three goals in four games, including two consecutive game winning tallies on home ice against the Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks. The 24-year old continues to lead the AHL in goals (18) but appears highly unlikely to return to Cedar Park anytime soon. Clayton Bailey
November 2013 – Riding a three game point streak, Sceviour ranks fourth in the AHL in points (17) and is tied for second in goals scored (11) through 14 games this season with Texas. He recorded seven goals in the opening seven games, including his first career hat-trick on Oct. 31 against Abbotsford. Clayton Bailey
June 2013 – The Dallas Stars announced that the club has re-signed Sceviour to a two-way contract valid through the end of the 2013-2014 season. In 62 games this season, he led the Texas Stars in scoring with 52 points (21 G, 31 A) and a plus -21 rating. Appearing in nine Calder Cup Playoff games against the Milwaukee Admirals and Oklahoma City Barons, Sceviour posted a combined total four points (one goal, three assists) and a plus-1 rating. Clayton Bailey
April 2013 – Upon returning from his one game with Dallas on Jan. 26, Colton put up 28 points in 30 games to finish the AHL regular season. He was particularly hot in March and April. Sceviour had one streak of 13 points in 7 games and then had a point in each of his final nine games. He was limited to just 62 games, putting up 52 points which led the Stars. While not his best total (he had 53 last season), he put those points up in 13 fewer games. Rex Doty
January 2013 – After producing 24 points in 32 games, Sceviour has received another sniff at the NHL. This time he produced in his first opportunity. He will likely be sent back to the AHL once Dallas gets healthy again, but he continues to make himself a notable option to on the radar for future opportunities. Jason Banks
July 2012 – With a two-way contract for one season, Sceviour will continue to be part of a deep group of Stars’ prospects on the edge of the NHL. He most likely needs a new organization to acquire him to move forward, as Scott Glennie, Alex Chiasson, Thomas Vincour and Austin Smith seem to have the right side clogged up in the ‘Big D’. Jason Banks
April 2012 – Sceviour is a player with a solid overall game. He developed his game over four years in the WHL and is showing his offensive instinct and shooting ability now in the AHL with Texas Stars. He plays a very determined game at both ends of the ice. He is currently in his third season in pro with his production climbing each year, so if his natural offensive talents continue along with physical and strong defensive play he could be sticking in NHL soon. Russ Bitely
Fantasy Outlook: C+
Solid two-way forward. Has continued to grow offensively over time. Biggest limiting factor is stacked forward group ahead of him in Big D.
