Victor Johansson

September 2026 – Johansson moves to Brynas for 2026-27 after splitting last year between Leksands in the SHL and IK Oskarshamn in the HockeyAllsvenskan, where he posted ten points in 22 games and showed his best hockey of the season. A mobile, two-way defender with elite skating and strong transition instincts, he carries a decent floor as a pro-level European player and a more intriguing ceiling than his slight frame currently suggests. Filling out physically remains the key prerequisite before any conversation about North American pro hockey begins in earnest. A larger role at Brynas should help develop the all-around game that still needs refinement. Ryan Downey

September 2025 – Johansson has started of his J20 season in Sweden with two goals in two games. Last season he finished third in defenseman scoring in the league with seven goals and 32 assists in 47 games. He saw five games at the SHL level, but contributed no points.

In order for Johansson to make a meaningful step towards North American professional hockey, he will need to earn his way and stick at the SHL level, as well as filling out his slight frame. Being able to add weight to be more physical without minimizing his skating will be important.

He is a long wait before making the move to North America, but he deserves a spot on your watchlist as his playmaking skills are solid. Alex Wyatt

January 2025 – Johansson has taken on 20 lbs since being drafted by the Leafs in the fourth round of the 2024 draft. Don’t let that growth fool you, Johansson is still somewhat undersized at 165lbs, although it’s a positive step forward. He’s shown improvements at both sides of the ice, now more engaged overall. The lack of size still makes it difficult to play a pressing, physical game, but Johansson is putting in the work to improve himself overall. Still a work in progress, but overcoming much of his deficiencies that made him a surprise to many scouts when he was drafted so high. Austin Kelly
