July 2026 – The Dallas chapter ended almost before it started. Acquired from Philadelphia on Oct. 30 for Christian Kyrou, Tuomaala gave Texas an immediate jolt with 10 points in 16 games, exactly the pace-and-rush profile the trade targeted. Then a lower-body injury suffered against San Diego in early December ended his season at those 16 games, and he never returned to the lineup. On June 29 Dallas declined to issue him a qualifying offer, and he became an unrestricted free agent on July 1. That closes his run in the organization after eight months, most of it spent injured. The talent case that made him a 2021 second-rounder has not changed: he attacks in stride, arrives on the weak side into scoring ice, and owns a legitimate NHL-caliber shot. The durability and consistency case is now four pro seasons of interruptions across two organizations. At 23 he is young enough for another team to take the flier, and a healthy training camp somewhere would tell us more than anything he showed this season. His next contract, wherever it comes, resets the fantasy clock entirely. Andrew Epps

April 2026 – Dallas gave Tuomaala a clean reset. Texas acquired him on Oct. 30, 2025, assigned him to Cedar Park immediately, and he scored in his Texas debut on Nov. 2, 2025. By Nov. 8, 2025, he already had a goal and an assist in his first three games with the Stars, which matched the appeal Dallas bought: pace through the neutral zone, inside-lane pressure, and quick-strike offense. Since then, the production has looked more like a smaller-sample stabilization year than a true breakout. His current AHL line with Texas sits at 19 games, two goals, eight assists, and 10 points. The fantasy case still comes from speed, rush touches, and weak-side arrivals into scoring ice, not from heavy volume creation along the wall or a finished pro power play role. He remains more dangerous attacking in stride than grinding offense out of static zone play, so the upside is still there, but the profile reads more like a skilled middle-six swing than a player who has clearly forced NHL minutes yet. November 2025 – The Dallas Stars acquired Tuomaala on October 30, 2025, from the Philadelphia Flyers for defenseman Christian Kyrou. The move to Dallas provides Tuomaala a fresh start with a new NHL franchise. He will add depth to the Stars and will be given a chance to become a more consistent player with the Texas Stars in the AHL before being considered for a role with Dallas in the NHL.

The 22-year-old Finnish winger is an intriguing buy-low dynasty league stash if he can translate his elite straight-line speed, quick release and shoot-first mentality. He could provide fantasy value across multiple categories should he earn an NHL opportunity in the future. Mark Henry

June 2025 – Samu Tuomaala tallied 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) across 46 games during the 2024-25 season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL. Tuomaala scored multiple overtime winners, including twice in back-to-back games, showcasing his skill and calmness under pressure. Despite being a team-worst -19, he remained a creative spark for the team, generating scoring chances and flashing his high-end shot. His consistent offensive presence and late-season production could keep him in the discussion for a potential NHL recall next season. James Iacovone

October 2024 – Tuomaala dealt with an injury during Flyers training camp but has since joined the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, where he’s expected to be a key contributor among their top-six forwards. While he’s a skilled offensive player, his path to an NHL role with the Flyers remains uncertain. James Iacovone

May 2022 – It was an underwhelming and confusing first season for Tuomaala as a member of the Flyers’ prospect pool. Starting the year in the AHL, it did not take long for Philadelphia to loan him back to the Finnish Liiga. Unfortunately, he failed to produce much offensively, deflating the tires of those who felt the Flyers obtained a first-round caliber talent in round two of the 2021 draft. Now it is back to the drawing board for Tuomaala as he hopes to experience a reset next season. He is already putting in time with a newly hired member of Philadelphia’s European development team: Sami Kapanen. Tuomaala certainly possesses the qualities of a successful NHL scorer. For now, everyone must remain patient and hope he can eventually put it all together. John Gove

February 2021 – One of the top Finnish players in the draft, Tuomaala is a player who has a shooter’s mentality and he isn’t afraid to show it. He thrives on shot generation and forcing the goaltender to make saves all over the ice. He has a good snap shot that can score from anywhere at the junior level. He can beat goalies with pinpoint accuracy or his quick release. Tuomaala does an excellent job of getting himself into space and setting up for a pass. The are times where selfishness with the puck can creep into his play but his shot is often good enough that you don’t hate it. He has begun to use his teammates a bit more since the New Year but he will need to continue to make progress in that area of the game if he wants to ensure that he is a first-round prospect. Tuomaala is fleet of foot, able to quickly move the puck up ice and evade a back check. He is solid in transition, providing an outlet for defenders and using his feet to get open push the play in the right direction. He plays with pace and his quickness is an asset in all three zones and his effort is generally quite good.

The young Finn does a good job of playing smart defensively and pressuring puck carriers. He gets below the dots in his own zone, supporting the battles in the corners and engaging when needed. He does a very good job of using his stick to knock pucks loose and corral them into his own control. He may not be a star at either end of the ice but his two-way ability is solid and his offensive game thrives on his shooting ability. He could be an interesting complementary piece who could shine with a good playmaker. There is no reason to believe that Tuomaala won’t be a solid NHL player at some point, it’s just going to depend on whether his offensive game can develop into a bit more of a diverse threat to ensure that he becomes a valuable top-six player. Tony Ferrari
