Observations
August 2025 – Detroit grabbed a smooth skating, puck-moving defenseman in Tyurin from Russia. Playing for Spartak Moskova in the MHL, he put up 20 points (four goals, 16 assists) in 50 games. He’s not the biggest defenseman (6-0, 175 pounds), but he sees the ice really well and his agility allows him to defend effectively by cutting off lanes, closing gaps and getting sticks on pucks. Tyurin has the elusiveness to shake forecheckers, make a great outlet pass and join the rush. When the puck is on his stick, he slows the game down and often connects with open teammates. Tyurin’s contract in Russia expires at the end of the 2027 season which gives him time to develop over there before making decisions about his future. Emmanuel Alforque
