Michal Postava

September 2026 – Postava had one of the more eye-catching first AHL seasons in recent memory, posting a 1.71 GAA and .937 save percentage across 25 regular-season games for Grand Rapids before taking the starting job from Sebastian Cossa in the playoffs – eight appearances, a 2.09 GAA, and a .912 save percentage as the Griffins were eliminated in the second round by the Chicago Wolves. The Czech undrafted signing arrived as organizational depth and left the year as Detroit’s most interesting goaltending prospect. His style is technical and efficient, with remarkable recovery speed – he pushes powerfully off his skates to make desperate saves without losing structural shape, and performed better under pressure, not worse. With Cossa now in Utah, Postava and Trey Augustine will share the Grand Rapids crease, and the better of the two could push for a Detroit backup role as soon as next season. June 2025 – The Detroit Red Wings signed Czech goaltender Michal Postava to a two-year, entry-level contract on June 10, 2025. His contract runs through the 2026-27 NHL season when Postava will become a restricted free agent.

In 2024-25, with HC Kometa Brno in Czechia’s highest league, Postava had a 23-18-0 record in 42 games, with a .921 SV% and 2.39 GAA, including three shutouts. In the playoffs, his numbers were even better. In 17 playoff games, he had 10 wins with a .940 SV% and a 1.97 GAA, helping Kometa Brno win their third league championship.

It’s unlikely that Postava will make the Detroit Red Wings’ opening night roster to start the 202-26 season. Still, anything is possible in Detroit with the goalies they have in their organization at the moment.. Expectations are that he will begin his career in North America in the American Hockey League with the Grand Rapids Griffins and pair with Detroit’s 2021 first-round pick (15th overall), Sebastian Cossa.
