March 2025 – Gidlöf has continued to have a good year tending goal for Leksands IF and their J20 team this season, though he has cooled off a bit from his start to the year. He now boasts a nine win record in the J20 league with a .924 save percentage through 11 games played. His stats with the big club in the SHL are a little lower with a .908 save percentage and an 11-6-0 record in 17 games played. These are still outstanding numbers for a 19-year-old goalie, but he has now been loaned to Djurgardens IF in the HockeyAllsvenskan. The 6-6 Swedish netminder has a lot of upside, but he needs more strength and some improved technical ability to instill confidence that his style will translate to the NHL game. William Langstaff

January 2025 – Gidlöf has split time this season between the Swedish junior J20 league and the SHL for Leksands IF. He has been extremely strong in both leagues this year and may be one of the biggest bright spots in the New York Islander’s prospect pool. In seven games at the J20 level in Sweden, he has posted a GAA of only 1.43 and a whopping save percentage of .935, including two shutouts and a perfect record of seven wins and no losses. The 19-year-olds’ numbers in the SHL have been impressive as well. He has suffered only three losses in eight games and posted a 2.07 goals against average with a save percentage of .917. Gidlöf played two games with Team Sweden at the World Junior Championship. The first game was not much of a challenge against Kazakhstan, where he allowed only one goal against 16 shots. His second tournament start came in the Bronze medal game against Czechia. He played a great game, allowing only two goals on 33 shots against it, and he showed an outstanding performance in the shootout in what would eventually be a heartbreaking loss. Gidlöf has a ton of potential and continues to show it this season. William Langstaff

July 2024 – Gidlöf was selected 147th overall by the New York Islanders. Mark Henry

June 2024 — The largest goaltender of the bunch, Gidlöf’s 6’6 frame and skillset make him a high upside bet. Gidlöf uses adequate short lateral movement and strong leading hands to cut off shooters’ angles, extending and sealing the ice when necessary to shut down chances in the crease. He can tend to sink in his net when facing shooters coming downhill. He can struggle with longer lateral movement, but the tools he does have give him a chance at being an excellent goaltender at the professional level. (Final Ranking: 110) Colin Hunter
