October 2021 – The Oilers selected Münzenberger with the extra draft pick they received by trading down in the first round. The team had a close look at this player when he played for Germany at the World Junior Championship held in Edmonton back in December of 2020. The German defender had a solid, reliable showing in the tournament and started popping up on the radar of NHL teams as a potential late round pick. The head scratcher is that Edmonton opted to make a huge reach on Münzenberger by selecting him in the top 100 when one could argue there were a lot of prospects with higher upside available. The young defender is currently playing for the University of Vermont and has four penalty minutes in two games played. Time will tell if this reach was worth it. Jameson Ewasiuk
