Fantasy Summary
A draft-overager who added some offense and saw his name called. Likely middle-sixer at the professional level.
Observations
July 2025 – Sumpf is one of the more interesting overagers selected in the 2025 NHL Draft. He was part of one of the most efficient lines in all of junior hockey, alongside Caleb Desnoyers (UTA) and Juraj Pekarcik (STL), and was Germany’s best player at the U20 World Junior Championship. He possesses a projectable skill set for the next level, with his skating standing out as one of his most notable traits to build upon for higher levels. The 20-year-old German will be leaving the QMJHL next year to play for Providence College in the NCAA, joining a roster where he is expected to make an immediate impact. Sumpf should get plenty of opportunity with Providence before making the jump to professional hockey. James Connelly
June 2025 – Selected at ninety-eighth overall, Julius Sumpf is now a member of the Chicago Blackhawks. Alex Wyatt
