March 2022 – Kinnvall played in one out of four Stockton games last week, despite putting up seven assists in 13 games on the season. The only thing that sticks out is that there is a small chance he heads back to Sweden next season as he isn’t getting much playing time and seems to be the odd man out on the Stockton Heat. December 2020 – Johannes Kinnvall signed with the Calgary Flames in March 2020 after being on their radar for quite some time. He’s a puck moving, highly patient passer with the ability to run a PP and frustrate forecheckers. He is the type of defenseman to out wait you. You are playing checkers and he is playing chess. Johannes has smooth crossovers and it able to adapt to the moving play and find open passing and receiving lanes for passes. He is quite compact and doesn’t have the added bonus of being highly physical or win a longest reach contest but he adds value to a Flames system that is starved for players who are made to run a PP. Kinnvall uses his stick well to defend and should get ample opportunity once he joins Stockton for 2020-21. Currently he is playing for HV71 and has gathered 14 points in 14 games to begin the year. – Joel Henderson
