Observations

December 2025 – Muldowney is midway through his junior season at the University of Connecticut. After breaking out last year with 47 points in 39 games, his offensive numbers have dipped a bit this season. Through 14 games, he has six goals and five assists for 11 points, solid production, but not quite at the same pace as a year ago. Even so, his impact on the UConn program goes beyond the scoresheet, as he also wears an “A” as an assistant captain.

Muldowney is another intriguing piece in the San Jose Sharks’ prospect pipeline, and his long-term outlook remains promising. On the NHL roster, the right wing position is aging, with veterans like Ryan Reaves and Jeff Skinner nearing the end of their careers. The prospect depth on the right side is also relatively thin, which could open the door for Muldowney if his development continues on the right track.
For a sixth-round pick, the Sharks may have found a real value selection. Muldowney brings a strong scoring touch, above-average skating, and the ability to play effectively in all three zones. He thrives in transition and can influence the pace of play. The biggest question mark is his size, at 5-9 and 161 pounds, but plenty of smaller players have proven they can succeed at the NHL level. His upcoming appearance at the Spengler Cup will be one to watch, as it will give him his first authentic taste of professional competition.
From a fantasy standpoint, Muldowney is a high-risk, high-reward long-term option. In deeper leagues with extra roster flexibility, he could be worth stashing and monitoring as his development unfolds. Kenny Kaminsky

June 2025- Muldowney skated in his sophomore NCAA season, and saw a solid jump in his offensive production. He scored 29 goals and added 18 assists for 47 points in 39 games to lead University of Connecticut in scoring. He was a benefactor of several of the team’s top offensive players moving on, and thrived with the new deployment. His 154 pound frame leaves some concern for how he will be able to handle the rigors of professional hockey, and managers and fans should expect to see Muldowney take a turn with the Barracuda in due time. Alex Wyatt.
