Fantasy Summary

A powerforward with decent hands and motor whose flashes of skill need to find more consistency.

June 2025 – Traded to Anaheim along with a 2nd for Brian Dumoulin. Träff has completed his first full professional season. He split the time between Nybro in the Allsvenskan and HV71 in the SHL. In his nine games with Nybro, Träff looked comfortable against men, recording three goals, three assists, showing plenty of physicality, and earning way too many PIMs. His direct style and aggressive approach make him a natural fit for an NHL bottom-six role. Discipline remains an issue, and he will need to improve his playmaking and puck decisions to avoid becoming a liability at higher levels. Even direct, physical players must be able to play-make to a degree and limit turnovers. Träff is set to spend next season with Oskarshamn in the Allsvenskan, an opportunity that should provide him more time and chance to work on his game. Still likely two or more seasons away from NHL contention. Träff won’t ever light up the points column, so for most fantasy GMs, he’s not going to be very relevant, however, any GMs that are in leagues that value hits and PIM should continue to monitor Träff. December 2024 – Träff has been promoted to the SHL, Sweden’s top men’s league, where he has performed admirably in a bottom-six role. The physical winger has been throwing his weight around to create space for himself and others (as he should be doing) and getting in the way of opposing shots. He plays with pace, and his bread and butter is his forechecking ability and board play. He’s had some difficulty with discipline, which must improve should he make the leap to the NHL. He has the size, strength, speed, hardworking nature, and grittiness to make it to a bottom-six capacity in the big leagues if he polishes his consistency. JP Gambatese

July 2024 – Träff was selected 91st overall by the New Jersey Devils. Mark Henry

February 2024 – Träff may not play the flashiest style of hockey, but he’s fairly toolsy and learning how to make an impact via subtle details. He looks to go against the grain when pressured, especially in the neutral zone. He takes the extra beat of time junior hockey affords to deliberate on his options rather than hastily rushing the first option he spots. He has shown flashes of a power game, creative problem-solving with his hands and strength, and a middle-driven mentality, but the consistency of these flashes would need to increase for us to rank him inside our top 64.
