Georgi Romanov

October 2025 – The St. Louis Blues added depth to their organization by signing unrestricted free agent goaltender Georgi Romanov to a one-year, two-way contract on October 8, 2025. The Blues were looking to add a netminder after the Buffalo Sabres claimed Colten Ellis before the start of the 2025-26 season. The 25-year-old Romanov had shown steady improvement at the minor league levels while part of the San Jose Sharks organization since coming to North America during the 2023-24 season, before becoming an unrestricted free agent after the 2024-25 campaign. He has played in 10 NHL games thus far in his career and has yet to record a victory.

Romanov will start the 2025-26 season in the American Hockey League with the Blues’ AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. He is nothing more than a watch list player in dynasty leagues that does not need to be rostered. The Blues are set between the pipes with Joel Hofer and Jordan Binnington, but Romanov could see NHL action if injuries arise. Mark Henry

June 2025- Romanov saw a number of games with the Sharks to finish off the 2024-2025 season. Though every game he played in ended in a loss, not a single goalie to dress for San Jose finished the year with a sub-3.00 GAA. Mackenzie Blackwood escaped to Colorado with a save percentage over .900 (Vitek Vanecek also drastically improved after a trade to Florida), but the other four goaltenders who dressed in teal finished under that mark. Romanov is an RFA this offseason, and if the Sharks elect to let Alexandar Georgiev leave, and run with Askarov and Romanov, he could get a bigger workload in 2025-2026. He likely is not someone you want to give too many starts to for your fantasy squad if rate stats are a measure, however. Alex Wyatt
