July 2026 – Tiefensee’s season split into two very different halves. In Idaho he was excellent, going 7-1-3 with a 2.32 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage across 11 ECHL games, including a six-game November win streak with a .943 over that stretch. In Texas the results dropped, a 3.30 and .892 in 20 AHL appearances behind a team that leaked chances all year. The gap between those two lines is the story of his profile right now: at the level below, the 6-4 German controls games with his size and structured positioning, and at the AHL level the traffic and lateral speed still find his holes. He turns 24 this summer with a clear runway question, because Rémi Poirier owns the Texas net and Dallas drafted another big project in Goos behind him. The fantasy case remains a long-odds stash in the deepest goalie formats only. What matters next season is simple volume and level: whether he wins the Texas backup job outright in September and pushes his AHL save percentage back above .900, or spends another year splitting the difference in Boise. November 2025 – Since the June note, Tiefensee has finally crossed the Atlantic and started to build a North American track record. Dallas brought him into their 2025 prospect games group, where his size and athleticism held up in a scrambly environment, and the organization got its first extended look at him on smaller ice. He was assigned to Texas in late September, then quickly loaned to ECHL Idaho on October 13 to secure a true starter’s workload. With the Steelheads, he has gone 6-1-2 in nine games, posting a 2.64 GAA and a .916 save percentage, which has left him on a seven-game point streak and sitting among the ECHL leaders in wins. That run earned him a recall to Texas on November 28 and an excellent AHL debut, a 25-save 4-1 win over the Ontario Reign that saw him stay compact on his posts and let pucks hit him rather than oversliding. In terms of tools, the big frame, inside-out tracking, and patient depth from Mannheim are showing up against North American shooters. For fantasy purposes, he still sits in long-shot territory. Still, a full year of quality starts in Idaho, and spot duty in Texas would move him from an intriguing prospect into a legitimate stash in deeper formats. Andrew Epps

June 2025 – The fifth round pick by Dallas in 2023, Tiefensee earned his ELC on the back of some strong showings in the DEL over the past three seasons. He has consistently ranked in the top-15 goaltenders, culminating with this season’s effort- a 19-10-0 line with a 2.27 GAA and .912 save percentage- his best to date.

That there are several goaltenders ahead of him that have little name value in North American circles should temper our expectations of him coming to Dallas and being a factor in the net. However, the annals of NHL history are riddled with stories of goaltenders coming out of the woodwork to be stars. Seeing Dallas sign Tiefensee to a contract is the first step, and a sign he should at least be on our radar- he is nearly unowned in Fantrax leagues as of writing. Alex Wyatt
