June 2025 – Sandstrom spent the year in the AHL with the Rochester Americans, playing in 19 games and sporting a respectable 2.86 GAA and .899 save percentage. With Devon Levi getting the lion’s share of the starts in the minors, and Ukk0-Pekka Luukkonen the incumbent starter at the NHL level, Sandstrom seems to be the third wheel on the depth chart if he remains in Buffalo. His contract expired at the end of the season, leaving him a UFA at age 28. We will see if he chooses to take his talents elsewhere to compete for a backup spot at the NHL level. If Levi were to move up and form a tandem with Luukkonen in Buffalo, the starter spot would belong to Sandstrom, but time will tell if that’s enticing enough for him to re-up in Buffalo. Alex Wyatt

July 2023 – Sandstrom split the 2022-23 season between the AHL (seven games played) and the NHL (20 games played). He is entering the final year of his two-year contract and is on a one-way deal for the 2023-24 season. Sandstrom must improve his .880 SV% % and 3.72 GAA posted during the 2022-23 campaign with the Flyers. He will become an unrestricted free agent at the expiry of his current contract. Mark Henry

June 2022 – Philadelphia signed Sandstrom to a two-year contract extension, where the first year is two-way and the second year is one-way. With the Flyers looking for young players to fill some of their roster gaps next season, expect Sandstrom to battle for the backup goalie spot with fellow goalie prospect Ivan Fedotov. John Gove

June 2022 – Playing 44 games in the AHL for the Phantoms, Sandstrom looked promising in his five NHL games with the Flyers. The 25-year-old netminder recorded a 3.23 GAA and .910 SV% behind a shaky defense in Philadelphia. Set to become a Group 6 UFA this offseason, the verdict is still out on Sandstrom’s future. If he decides to remain in North America, Sandstrom will likely contend for the backup role in Philadelphia. John Gove

July 2018 – It’s in the books, Felix Sandstrom has signed an entry-level deal with the Philadelphia Flyers. Even so, he will look to continue making noise for HV71 of the SHL this coming season given how crowded the LeHigh Valley projects to be this year. He still flies, no pun intended, under the radar to many due to his history of injuries that caused his draft stock to fall back in 2015 when he was selected after more touted goalies such as Samsonov and Blackwood. He has upside, and could provide a decent in-house solution in the event Carter Hart’s development does not progress as hoped. Edric Joseph

February 2017 – Still working on staying healthy, Felix Sandstrom continues to tease his unpolished yet intriguing skill-set for Brynas of the SHL. His game is on the rise although in the meantime he benefits from the team in front of him by virtue of the fewer scoring chances that his team gives up. Sandstrom has NHL starter upside in the long-term but will need to be able to handle more of a workload before it makes sense for him to report for AHL or NHL duty. Edric Joseph

July 2016 – Sandstrom had a very strong draft+1 season, surprising many and earning the back-up role on a deceptively strong Brynas club in the SHL. In doing so, the 6’2 netminder produced a 10-12-2 record with a 2.61 GAA and .904 save percentage. He also suited up in three WJC games, two of which he was stellar before giving up eight in a blow-out loss to Team USA. Sanderstrom remains a raw talent that will need many more years of seasoning before becoming fantasy relevent, however he has the foundation of a player who could end up being a starter in Philidelphia one day. Cam Robinson

June 2015 – Felix was one of two goaltenders taken in the third round by the Flyers, roughly where he was expected. He has a lot of work to do, but his early numbers in Sweden are mighty impressive. He is unlikely to make a fantasy impact for another six years or so, so be prepared to wait if you draft him. Austin Wallace

June 2015 – Sandström has been tabbed as the number three overall European goaltender by NHL Central Scouting and is the top overall goaltender from Sweden in the upcoming 2015 NHL Draft. The 18-year-old netminder is known to be hot and cold at times and can sometimes become a little too zealous while playing the puck. Otherwise, his reflexes and impressive lateral movements allow him to pounce on loose pucks and squash second attempts. While projected to go in the third round or so, he has the skill to become a successful NHL’er. Zach Hopkins
