Fantasy Summary

Promising prospect starting to fade out of fantasy relevance

June 2019 – Lindberg did not get a qualifying offer from the Golden Knights which means he becomes an unrestricted free agent.  Jokke Nevalainen

May 2019 – It was an uninspiring year for the once highly touted prospect that finished the season playing on three separate AHL teams. In total, he racked up 16 points in 61 games. Lindberg’s current contract comes to an end this summer and it’s very likely the restricted free agent will not sign another NHL contract and could head back to his Swedish homeland to become a key contributor on an SHL roster. He doesn’t hold much fantasy value at this point in time, but his summer transaction should paint a clearer picture of his future. Mason Black

December 2018 – After posting two goals and four assists in 11 games with Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate, the Swede was sent to Ottawa with journeyman D Stefan Elliott for F Ben Sexton and D Macoy Erkamps in a two-for-two trade of uninspiring minor-leaguers. Since he compiled 22 points in 34 AHL outings with Binghamton, Lindberg’s pro career has drifted aimlessly. When he reports to the Belleville Senators, it will be his sixth AHL team in five seasons. September 2018 – The husky (6-2, 216-pound) Swede was waived by Pittsburgh so he could be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he will try to reverse a trend of declining production. The 23-year-old is in the final year of his entry-level contract, and his time in the organization is getting short. He didn’t register any offensive production in 13:09 of his only NHL pre-season action. Mark Allan

June 2018 – Treading carefully with a packed roster and limited cap space, GM Jim Rutherford inked the 22-year-old to a one-year, two-way contract with an NHL AAV of $650,000. The modest deal for the 6-3, 215-pounder also reflects a lack of pro production so far. After 22 promising points in 34 AHL outings for the 2015-16 Binghamton Senators, the husky Swede totaled just 51 points in 130 games for the Toronto Marlies and Chicago Wolves. He’s buried in Pittsburgh’s system. Mark Allan

May 2018 – The Swede continues to play for the Chicago Wolves, the AHL affiliate of the Golden Knights after Pittsburgh acquired Lindberg in the three-way deal that brought Derick Brassard to Pittsburgh. On loan from the Penguins, the 22-year-old winger posted 10 goals and 13 assists in 64 AHL outings, which is essentially the humdrum production he’s becoming known for after his 56-game, 34-point AHL debut for the Binghamton Whalers and Toronto Marlies. Already on his third AHL squad, the RFA could be moving on from the Penguins. Mark Allan

February 2018 – Not to be confused with two Swedish defensemen of the same name, the RW/LW came from Vegas in the three-team deal that brought Derick Brassard to Pittsburgh. Lindberg has eight goals and 10 assists in 48 games with the Chicago Wolves. He’s just 22, but since it’s his third AHL season and his numbers are virtually identical to the previous campaign, it’s fair to wonder whether he will realize the potential three other NHL organizations saw before shuffling him off. His 6-3, 215-pound physique remains attractive, although he’ll have to produce for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before he adds to the six NHL games on his resumé. Mark Allan

December 2017- Tobias Lindberg was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights for Calvin Pickard and a 6th round pick on October 6th, 2017. Toronto had acquired the Swedish 4th round pick in the Phaneuf deal with Ottawa. Expectations had been high for Lindberg but he just didn’t advance or develop as the Leafs had hoped. In the 2016 -17 season with the Marlies, Lindberg had six goals and 10 assists in 44 games. At 22 years of age Lindberg’s potential appears limited. Because Toronto has a contract limitation challenge Lindberg was included in the deal with Vegas to open a roster spot for Pickard He has cleared waivers and has been placed with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. So far this year Lindberg has three goals and three assists in 24 games with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. From a fantasy perspective Lindberg has very limited value at best. Brian Harling

July 2017 – Last season was a rough one for the young Swede, struggling to secure a spot in the lineup with injuries and lack of production. His play was not terrible, but for a player that was expected to generate production, he was unable to show any mojo. He is still only turning 22, so there is time for his talents to resurface, with a youth group hungry to bury pucks in the back of the net. He will need to find chemistry on a unit or be left behind. He is not an attractive name for many, but still has upside to be watched or held in deep leagues. Jason Banks

April 2016 – Lindberg took a little while to get rolling after his organizational trade, but has now become an important player game to game and very noticeable. He has continued similar production as he had in Binghamton and showed an ability to produce in the NHL during a limited viewing. I question his skating ability and would rate it below average and might be the focus point for his development going forward as he struggles to threaten defenders one on one. He is rather comparable to Jason Allison who was known for having limited skating abilities, Allison survived and thrived using his size and hockey IQ to be a very effective and productive forward. Lindberg has a good head for the two-way game and uses his size to lean into defenders pulling pucks from the corners into scoring areas, he is very hard to knock off the puck which is helped by his reach and he has a good sense of lanes that his teammates will be filling often hitting friendly troops in flight. The outlook is very solid that he will be a contributing mid-liner who could be a power play regular where his puck vision and movement could be a key element along with a rather under-rated shot. Jason Banks

February 2016 – As part of a nine-player deal involving Dion Phaneuf, Lindberg was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs where he joins a nice young core of prospects. It won’t accelerate is ascension to the NHL though. Dobber

November 2015 – Lindberg is proving last season was no fluke as he has continued his strong play during his second year in North America, despite stepping up a level in competition. In his first eight professional games with the Binghamton Senators, Lindberg has stepped right onto the top line and has gelled well with Eric O’Dell and Ryan Dzingel, posting two goals and five assists (all on goals by O’Dell) to place him in a tie for the team scoring lead. If he can keep things rolling, he should see some time in the Nation’s Capital this year and hopefully ease some of the pain Sens fans have from trading Ben Bishop for Cory Conacher and a fourth round pick (Lindberg). Brad Phillips

May 2015 – Tobias helped his team get to the Memorial Cup finals with a strong post season, 14 points in 16 games, as well as good memorial cup with three goals in the three round robin goals. Lindberg has incredible puck protection skills and strong two-way play. Lindberg played on all of the Generals top three lines this year: the top line which with Dal Colle, the “big line” with Hunter Smith and the defensive line with Cole Cassels. He always seems to be the guy to put on the line to get it to click. The sole Senators prospect in the Memorial Cup final Lindberg put his puck possession skills on display during the game and assisting on the game winning goal. Benjamin Gallant

February 2015 – Lindberg was drafted by Oshawa with the 46th pick in the CHL Import Draft prior to the 2014-15 season.  After spending last season as an alternate captain of the Djurgarden U20 team in Sweden, the talented winger made the jump to the OHL. His first season on North American soil has been with overwhelming success and it appears Ottawa could have a steal on their hands. Through 53 games, the Swede has put up 64 points, which puts him third on the team behind fellow high-level prospects Michael Dal Colle (NY Islanders) and Cole Cassels (Vancouver). Although he’s in his first year with Oshawa, Lindberg has played in all situations with the Generals this season and has provided multiple goals in both power play and shorthanded situations. With Djurgarden last season Lindberg displayed an edge to his game with 93 PIM’s in 38 games. However, that production has not carried over to the OHL, where the big-bodied winger only has eight penalty minutes on the season. Kevin LeBlanc
