California Dreamin’ – Three California Based Prospects to Watch:
Los Angeles Kings – Liam Greentree (LW)
Shooters shoot, that’s what they say anyway, and Liam Greentree, that young man can shoot the puck. With 42 goals and 103 points in 57 games to date this season, Greentree is continuing to prove why he should have been taken earlier than 26th overall in 2024. Posting a 1.84 PPG for the season, Greentree has raised his game even higher in February for the Windsor Spitfires. In nine games in February, Greentree has nine goals, 14 assists, putting up 2.1 PPG. The Oshawa native has a quick release, and a goal-scorer’s nose for the net. Greentree can also be a threat to score with his backhand, his backhand is as good as most players wrist shot. For a big man, he has soft hands, Greentree slows things right down and then uses his vision and creativity to make plays and set up his teammates. He continues to work on his skating and is moving around more efficiently, but now needs to work on his foot speed and acceleration. The Spitfire’s Captain is showing a dedication to the defensive end this year, being used on the penalty kill and showing more compete on the defensive end of the ice at 5-on-5. The King’s have to be excited about the way Greentree’s season has gone thus far, he is showing the makings of a true top-six winger in the NHL.

Anaheim Ducks – Beckett Sennecke (RW)
The upside for Beckett Sennecke is tantalizing, as the Ducks third overall pick in 2024 continues to grow both on and off the ice. Now standing at 6-4, 195lbs in his D+1 season, Sennecke has grown 2 inches and gained 13 lbs since his draft season. When Sennecke’s legs are moving he has all the tools to be a first line winger in the NHL. His ability to make plays at high speeds is his biggest attribute. The Toronto native has a strong shot that he can get off his stick in a hurry. He often scores using the curl and drag to set up a quick release through traffic. With a large frame he has a long reach and can protect the puck extremely well in the corners and along the wall. Keeping opponents on his back, he uses his excellent vision to set up teammates. Sennecke needs to continue to fill into his frame, he can look awkward at times losing his footing in his stride. Given time to fill out and develop it is easy to foresee a couple years down the road that Sennecke will have all the makings of a highly skilled, smooth skating big man, every General Managers dream. Sennecke has had a solid month of February putting up seven goals, six assists and 13 points in 10 games played.

This is a fun one, kind of looks like a play you would see in rugby, the flip out of the zone Sennecke retrieves his own pass in the neutral zone, picks the puck up with a quick little kick up to the stick, followed by the quick give and go, then he rifles it home:

San Jose Sharks – Igor Chernyshov (LW)
A moose on skates, Chernyshov made his much-anticipated OHL debut on January 30th after coming off shoulder surgery in the offseason. He has been the hottest player cooking in the OHL ever since. Racking up 35 points in 14 games played for the Saginaw Spirit as of Feb 28th. The 6-3, 225 lbs Russian winger is big and physical, he works hard in all ends of the ice. Getting the puck off Chernyshov in the corners is nearly impossible, as he uses his big body and hockey IQ to shield the puck and strip players of the puck along the walls. His hockey IQ is elite, moving the puck quickly and making high end plays with little time, he knows where to distribute the puck before it is even on his stick. The Russian native is a playmaker first and will often make the extra pass, sometimes over passing and missing out on good shooting opportunities. Chernyshov has a powerful shot that he gets off quickly catching goalies off guard. The 33rd overall pick in the 2024 Draft, has been paying attention to the details of the game as well. Stopping and starting instead of circling, he is working hard on the back check and is also working to stay on the defensive side of the puck. While he is still a work in progress in that aspect you will see him cheat for offense at times, the conscious effort to play responsibly is there. In 14 games Chernyshov has proven he is ready for the jump to the pro game, expect to see him threatening for a spot in the Sharks line up in the next couple of seasons.

February Quick Hitters:
- Chicago Blackhawks Prospect, Nick Lardis hit the 60 goal mark after netting a hat-trick on February 20th. As of March 1st, Lardis has 65 goals and 42 assists in 57 games played.
- Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, Easton Cowan’s point streak of 65 regular season games officially came to an end February 7th against the Peterborough Petes. Cowan has now been held pointless in three games in February.
- 2026 Draft Eligible Pierce Mbuyi had a great month of February scoring 10 goals, eight assists with 1.38 PPG in 13 games.
- 2025 Projected Top Three pick Michael Misa was the first player to crack the 100-point mark in the CHL in February. Misa looks to be making a run at Boston College’s Centre James Hagens to be the first forward taken in the Draft this summer. Misa now has 118 points in 56 games played. Hell, he might even be making a run at the first overall pick.
