Welcome to the Thursday prospect ramblings, I am going to go over players that should be given a chance from the AHL. I have titled it “Give these players a chance NHL Coaches and GMs” because I obviously know more than them! #SelfProclaimedGenius

Let’s go!

Daniel Carr (signed by Vegas for 2018-2019) – Remember when he was playing well in a depth role for Montreal and seemed like he could be an NHL scoring winger, but injuries then a new coach derailed his career? Well now all he is doing is leading the AHL in scoring. Vegas is pretty deep on the wings (well and they play Reaves) and he has played six low ice-time games scoring one goal. At 27 he is likely a career AHLer, but I hope an NHL team gives him a shot.

Reid Boucher (signed by Vancouver for 2018-2019) – The handling for this player, as a Devils fan, has frustrated me as soon as they lost him on waivers. He has been good enough to put up close to (or over) a point per game in the AHL sprawled across three different teams, but no team will give him a legit NHL shot. At only 25 he could still have a chance, and how much better would he be on the Devils with their weak depth on the wing (mind you Vancouver is probably worse but he still can’t make it). Just give him a chance!

Alan Quine (signed by Calgary for 2018-2019) – Injuries derailed Quine’s chances to become a line up regular for the Islanders in 2017-2018 and he was never able to really grab a hold of the line up once he returned. He was a great AHLer in 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, and then played a depth role in 2016-2017 to fine results for a first year player. Now for the Stockton Heat he has 35 points in 26 games, but if the Flames will not even dress Austin Czarnik (see below) he will not have a chance outside random call-ups. In the NHL this year he has had four points in nine games.

Austin Czarnik (signed by Calgary for 2018-2020) – The Flames went out of the way to sign Czarnik and proceed to plug him on line four or in the press box. He had put up good AHL numbers from 2015 to 2018, and Czarnik had looked good in limited NHL time. He deserves a shot over James Neal but one is overpaid and the other is not. Give him a shot!

Janne Kuokkanen, Martin Necas, and Aleksi Saarela (Carolina) – Listen Brind’Amour and Waddell, I know you want these players to marinate but they are upgrades over Brock McGinn and Greg McKegg, and if you want to put players in scoring roles they do not fit (Williams, Staal, and Martinook). Imagine if the Canes put together a skilled top nine and a fourth line that is a good two-way presence and can chip in once and a while. Fix yourselves!

Sebastian Aho (New York Islanders) – I know, good job critisizng one of the top teams in the NHL, but Aho should really be in the NHL. Instead the Islanders gave Sbisa a contract and should probably move out one of Hickey, Mayfield, and Pelech as they are redundant. Trotz’s system makes this whole team look good but they could use puck-movers like Aho and Toews, along with scorer Dal Colle, and playmaker Ho-Sang (who really looks like he needs a chance of scenery each time he heads to the AHL).

Charles Hudon (MTL) – All Hudon has done is put up points in the AHL once he finished his time in the QMJHL at the end of 2014. From 2014-2017 Hudon put up 159 points in 198 games for a poorly run St. John’s IceCaps/Hamilton Bulldogs (you can read about how poorly managed the team one by a google search if you do not believe me). He then put up a respectable 30 points in 72 NHL games for a bottom six player on a team that cratered to the bottom of the standings. This season he cannot get a sniff of consistent NHL time, can a team please save him, a good scoring middle-six player is there!

Thanks for reading the ramblings.
